There was a 'dicussion' on Facebook yesterday about 2 meters not getting
much traffic locally. In part of it, someone mentioned the 26th at 7 pm
your local time, go to 2m Simplex and just call out... Well, I did, but
I never got a reply. Not sure if this was something that others heard
    about or tried?

I moved back to this area a year and a half ago, after 6 months of checking in to the only local net on 2m (or otherwise) nobody seemed to still be able to even recall my name, so I turned it off, listened to 146.520 though the day and evening for a few months after that.. put my callsign out lots of times and zero responces. Sold my only VHF radio a couple months ago since all it was doing is collecting dust.

Same thing out here. The repeaters out here are as bad as CB so I gave up on them years ago. I do check into one local club net but that's it. I spend 99% of my time on HF now.

Once in a while i get on EchoLink and check in to a saturday net where I use to live ve3ttt repeater at 7pm, but it feels weird using my android phone instead of a real radio. But that's as close as I get to 2m now.

Right now I only have an antenna for 10 meters up, I was going to move and had taken everything down, couldn't find a new apartment so talked the super where I am into letting me keep my current apartmnet or I'd be camping in my car today. So I'm 90% boxed up right now, I unpacked my FT450, and my Playstation3 to watch movies and there a huge pile of boxes in the living room hoping I'll find a decent place soon as my knees can't keep doing stairs.

Would like to put my 20 meter hamstick back on the balcony and maybe the 80m, since suddenly the noise that always killed 80m here seems to be gone, but now 40m is a wall of noise, and I WAS plannning on getting a 40m hamstick in 2 weeks at the hamfest in London..

Hey - not that I can say anything... I was silent on the BBS for
    MONTHS. :-)

I have started turning the radio back on. VERY very sporadic
    traffic...

Yeah - that's sad, but I totally get it...

I've been THIS close to thinking about seeing if someone wanted
to buy our mobiles, but as soon as I do my wife will be ready
to do some weather spotting again. :-)

Even then Echolink isn't always active. I am about to order something I have been wanting for a very long time: a new EFHW HF antenna from myantennas.com (the guy is a ham who used to design antennas for Cushcraft). 10-80 meters, no tuner required (though I will still use one). I haven't been on the air in months. Missing it. Rearranging my tiny 8x10' shack to allow me to not only use my Yaesu FT-450D but to finally hook up my Kenwood TS-430S also. That Kenwood has some lovely audio.

Side note: I just renewed my SKYWARN spotter certification. Evidently SKYWARN in my area is in shambles...which doesn't surprise me at all.

... Baby boom: Noise made when an infant breaks the sound barrier.

Or when he farts loudly in a quiet room. <G>

But, that brings to mind the graphic with the infant with a horrified expression on his face, and the caption "OMG!! That wasn't a fart"!! :P

Very true - which begs the quesiton - can you 'scan' with it? Hmm...

When I'm mobile, I'll scan the repeaters I have stored. I did a frequency
scan once and was picking up air traffic too. That was different.
