From MICHAEL LOO@1:123/140 to NANCY BACKUS on Tuesday, June 04, 2019 10:22:52
replace the fridge that came with the house... couldn't find any when
that one died, so we now have a Frigidaire... (The stove also came with the house, and that hasn't died yet...)
I thought your stove was GE or something. Anyhow, if
it had been a quarter century younger, it would have
    died long since.
It is a GE.... and I'm sure you are right about that... :)

Yeah, I thought. One of those once-fashionable
    pushbutton controls, too.

I'm still occasionally having my doubts.
About the travel in general...? or in how safe the places you are
heading are for y'all as things are now...?
When the travel ends, I'm afraid she will do
likewise. Certainly when I myself quit wandering
the world, my brain will go rapidly.
The travel keeps the brain active... and the planning, exercised... :)

    And the pocketbook uneasy!

I figure it started when I signed up for Juno,
which was a dubious enterprise to begin with.
It might have been before, but Juno was so
incompetent that it became obvious then.
Just as glad I never went for Juno...

It always seemed a little scammish.

My theory is that everyone is being surveilled
to some degree, and I'm guessing I'm at one
level higher of scrutiny, where I get a secondary
but not one that has to be done by an expert.
That's been mostly the pattern in real life (at
    the airport, anyway).
Possible, I suppose.... I know you keep getting the secondary at the airport...

My travel patterns being atypical, I get atypical treatment.
One good thing about traveling with Lilli is that when
we're together, they more often catch her. I guess the
theory is that she's the obvious innocent, and if I
wanted to board anything troublesome, it's be via her.

Who would they get to replace John? Julian?
Maybe just go as a threesome...?
Well, to the best of my knowledge they didn't.
As Ruth reminded me, George is gone now, too... I was originally
thinking more about them revisiting it in their thoughts rather than in performing it again, though.... :)

They would have had to be great insensitive dolts
not to have revisited their pasts in their minds.

You will have seen a nonpeanut satay sauce
    recently.
    Yup.
I've had abalone, and it doesn't taste enough
different from squid or clam strips to make it
worthwhile at the elevated price it commands.
I've had it at Canton House in a dimsum dumpling....
It's very expensive when served in recognizable
chunks, probably owing to supposed medicinal
properties (the Chinese are very big on
medicinal properties, but it's all a load of
abalone) and being a bringer of good luck.
That explains a bit... never quite thought that the abalone dumplings
were all that much different from anything else at Canton House...
probably just too chopped up to be recognizeable... :)

They taste okay, but the mythology is the main thing.

I was guessing it had to do with your relatives
    but wasn't sure which.
I knew you'd met Bonnie at the picnic... thought you'd also met Ana at
some point, as she comes to church with her kids... :)

Probably did but with limited interaction.

I think I did save it to the Picnic file, so maybe.... ;)
We'll see. There will be many entertainments
in any case. Perhaps on day three we can do a
guessing game - what did we forget to do on
    the picnic?
Isn't that a regular part of any Picnic....? (G)

Well, sure, but I don't recall.

In both cases, qualified good news.
    Yup...
Most news is qualified good news.
    There is that... :)

    Life is a two-edged sword.

difference is mostly in the upgrades: so long as
she keeps Executive Platinum, she gets the one seat
held for last-minute sale if nobody buys full-fare
first. Her quest is either highly practical or
totally nuts, depending on what your criteria are.
Indeed.... I see both sides of that... ;)

    And cuts both ways.

So we've gone our separate ways ... briefly, as she
leaves at 10:32 and I leave at 10:30, getting into
LaGuardia the next morning half an hour or so apart,
    different routings and different airlines.
Each of your itineraries designed to maximize the rewards needed/gained
by each.... and somewhat defeating the purpose of being traveling
companions, at least for the traveling part of it... ;) Not totally for
the being together at the destinations part... :)

It's not as though we interact much on the plane even
when we're on the same flight, even next to each
other. The main things I miss are getting a meal and
half (mine and part of hers), getting to waltz into
her club (or getting her into mine) before and
sometimes after a trip; and playing her phone games,
    particularly Wordament and WordConnect.

    Spanishish rice
    cat: found ingredients, main, casseroles
    servings: 6

2 c brown rice (that's what there was)
    3 1/2 c chicken stock
    1 Tb thyme
    1 Tb cumin
    1 ts red pepper flakes
    1 ts oregano
    1 ts basil
    s, p, chopped parsley
1 c diced tomatoes (that's all there was)
    3/4 lb pork sausage
    2 ribs celery, chopped
    1 lg onion, chopped
    1 sm green pepper, chopped

Cook rice in stock. When half done, stir in seasonings
    and tomato. Continue cooking, covered.

Meanwhile, crumble sausage and dry fry, retaining all
the fat unless it's a really huge gross amount. Add
vegetables in the order listed and cook until wilted.
Fold sausage, vegetables, and some of the fat into
the rice when it's nearly done.

If the rice is soupy and too al dente, finish in the
    oven.

Made for the meeting of the neighborhood association
    tonight.

You could cover this with cheese and finish it in the
oven anyway, but the neighborhood association isn't
worth it, and I've used too many pills lately.

You could substitute Spam for the sausage, in which
case it would become Spamish rice.

Yup.... and those are still working fine, too... when we first were
here, we thought the pushbuttons the most likely to go bad on us... but
it's been the oven elements that we've had replace, instead... :)
