That sounds like an interesting and potentially workable variation...
:) If one did it that way, picking up at checkout, I'd think that cash
    could also be an option....

Might be. But I seldom carry more than tip money in ca$h. And I write maybe three or four cheques per year. I use faaaaar more deposit slips than cheques. Bills are paid via online bank transfer or plastic. I
buy gas with a debit card that give me a minimum of 5c/gallon discount, etc.

Different strokes for different folks.... I pay cash for groceries,
just about all of the time... run gas and restaurant purchases through plastic to get the 2% rebate (and pay in full)... Pay a few bills via phone-pay, but mostly by check, and nothing online...

Lessee now .... Gaz-o-lina - currently I am getting 5% back from Discover
on fuel purchases and auto service (oil changes, etc.) Plus I have a Gas
Buddy debit card (through Wright Express) that saves me 5c/gallon at any station that takes Wright Express. And I have a MotoMart direct debit
that's good for 6c/gallon at their stores.

Groceries - My AmEx card gives me 3% cash-back on groceries. MasterCard
    gives me 2%

Restaurant purchases I get 3% from MasterCard and for one quarter each
year Discover gives me 5%. That's coming up when the 5% on gas is over.

All of my cards give me at least 1% cash back on all purchases. And none
has an annual fee. Like you I *never* carry a balance. Credit card interest rates are worse than borrowing from the mob - even if their collections
methods are not so physically painful.

Plus it lets me tell the panhandlers and other leeches "I'm on plastic only, man (or ma'am)" with a straight face.

I just tell them "sorry, I just don't have anything" with a gentle, sympathetic smile....

The other day, in a fey mood, I saw a guy standing on a street corner
with his crude home-made cardboard sign "Homeless - Hungry - Anything
Helps". So I ducked through a Mickey D's drive-thru lane and brought
him a couple McDoubles. And got a really wierd look and a very faint
mumbled "Thanks" for my trouble. Bv)=

I've done the curbside deal - and it's very handy. Place the order,
give a window for pick-up. Hy-Vee emails/texts (both) to let you know
when your order is assembled. Text "GO" to the store when you're on your
way. Call (store line) or text "READY" when you pull into the pickup
point. Voila'. Quicker than finding a parking space and walking to the
store - let alone trudging around picking up your staple items.

It does sound like a useful service.... :)

I've an order for pick-up when I get off work today. Since it contains frozen foods I'll leave work, shoot over to Hy-Vee, score the
groceries and beat feet for the house before anything thaws out. Bv)=

Guess that works.... :) I've noted the worker-bees collecting the
orders in the store for the pickups and for the deliveries... they've
got a fridge and a freezer for the perishables, right at the front of
the store, near the door to the curbside pickup... ;)

The lady ahead of me in the pick-up line had nearly all the space behind
the third row seating od a soccer-mom van filling rapidly with her order.
So, always helpful, I told her if the order was over $100 they'd bring
it to her house. And the Hy-Vee girl loading the van confirmed that.
Bet she takes 'em up on it, too.

    Title: Dave's Freezer Chicken Soup
    Categories: Five, Poultry, Vegetables, Pasta
    Yield: 4 Quarts

1 lb Chicken bits from the GFS
    - bag
1 lb Bag frozen, mixed vegetables
    - California blend or spring
    - veg or your choice
4 tb GFS (Minors) Chicken base
    2 tb Miso Paste
    1/2 lb Linguine or spaghetti

Get out your five-quart crockpot and fill it half full
of water. Set the temperature control to high. Add the
chicken base and miso paste and stir until dissolved.

Add the chicken bits and vegetables, stirring to mix.

Add hot water to bring level to about an inch from the
top of the pot. Cover and let it cook for an hour.
Remove the cover and add the pasta (I use pan length
pasta I get from Hy-Vee), stirring to submerge.

If you like pepper - get out the pepper mill and grind
away until your wrists get tired or you think you have
enough. You won't need added salt as the chicken base
    and miso are plenty salty.

Soup is ready when the noodles are done.

    Makes four or more quarts

We use four different credit cards. One gives us 3% on groceries,
another gives 5% on Amazon purchases plus 2% on pharmacey purchases,
then one with 4% on gas plus 3% at restaurants, and finally the SW card
that gives 1 mile per dollar spent. In order to keep track of which
card to use for what, I have an old pin-feed address label which I cut
to size and write what each card if good for. I pay cash for almost
    nothing.

Category says kids, but looks to be a decent comfort food item for
    anyone.
