Yep, and give them enough time a "baker's dozen"* will be 12 and a
"dozen" will be 11. Nice odd number...kind of like the packaging of
hot dogs and hot dog buns that's so acceptable.

I really am having trouble wrapping my head around that one... that
would be like a foot only having 10 inches.... ;0 And just as well I don't care much for hot dogs or the traditional white bread buns.. but
the obvious solution is to either eat two of the 10 dogs sans bun
(only 8 of them, after all)... or stuff 2 dogs in one bun a couple times... ;)

The hot dogs that we buy are fairly skinny, and so we often slice them
in half and put one and a half on each bun. That still leaves us with
    one dog left over.

Ok... that's not computing... 2 dogs left over, sliced in half, make 4
half dogs... add them to whole dogs, and that's 4 buns with 1 1/2 dogs,
and 4 with 1 dog each.... Doesn't that account for them all...? ;)

I just don't buy either buns or dogs.... sometimes Italian sausage that
just gets served as a meat on the plate.. :)

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.05

    Title: Pansit
    Categories: Indian
    Yield: 4 Servings

2 sm Packages of Rice Sticks
1 md Chicken - boiled and picked
    Off the bones
    1/4 Head garlic (2 or 3 cloves
    Garlic will do)
    1 lg Onion, finely chopped
1 sm Head cabbage, shredded -
    About 1 lb.
1 bn Green onions, thinly sliced
    1 c Finely sliced celery
    2 c Carrots, thinly sliced
    4 c Chicken stock
    2 tb Cooking oil
    3 tb Soy sauce
    1 tb Salt
2 ts Pepper (or to taste)

Soak rice sticks in water to soften. Heat wok before pouring in
    cooking oil.

Add garlic let it brown, then add onion and chicken. Add 1 cup of
chicken broth. Cook and stir for a few minutes. Add carrots, cabbage
and celery. Cook and stir until all vegetables are half way done. Add
soy sauce, salt and pepper. Stir and add remaining chicken broth.
Cook until the vegetables are done.

Add rice sticks (throw away the water). Cook until heated through.
Spread thinly sliced green onion on top before serving.

    Notes:
Use Rice Sticks only. We have found no other noodles that work
properly. We use a wok because it will hold a large volume, any LARGE
pot or skillet will do. This recipe fills a bowl 12in dia x 5 in
    deep.

And that last one is the one you need to enrich your baked beans,
mac and cheese or hash brown potatoes and onions.

Whenever I fry diced potatoes I add onion (or chopped leek if I have
onion hand), garlic, celery, a mixture of sweet and hot red and
green peppers and a wee bit of animal protein, usually something pork.

    Title: Chola Tikki (Chickpea Patties)
    Categories: Indian, Tested, Street food
    Yield: 8 Patties

    1 cn Chickpeas, drained
1 1/3 lb Red skin potatoes
    1 tb Ginger paste
    1 tb Dried cilanto
2 ts Chopped green chili (hot)
    1/2 ts Black pepper
    1/2 ts Salt
    2 ts Ground cumin
    1 ts Lemon juice

    MMMMM--------------------------GARNISH-------------------------------
    1/4 c Plain yogurt
    2 tb Cilantro chutnew
    2 tb Tamarind chutney

Works okay if done fresh. Does not freeze well.

Boil potatoes until they are tender. Drain and let cool. After
potatoes are cool, peel off the skin and use large holes on hand
shredder to shred potatoes into a bowl. NOTE NEXT TIME USE MASHED
    POTATOES

Dry chickpeas with paper towels to make sure they are very dry.
Place in chopper and process until medium chopped texture, not to
pulp, but still having some larger pieces mixed in with the smaller
    pieces.

Mix all ingredients together, adjust spices to your taste. Spread both
    hands with canola oil.

Divide mixture into 8 to 10 1/4 cup patties, form a tight ball and
then flatten to a pattie making sure edges are smooth. Make Pattie
about 1/2 thick. NEXT TIME MAKE LARGER PATTIE

TO FRY Heat oil in pan (should cover the surface generously). Heat
until a small sample of Pattie sizzles when placed in pan. Fry on
both sides until both are golden brown.

TO BAKE Heat oven to 350 (375 in convection oven). Brush each side of
formed pattie with oil, place on cookie sheet covered with telfon foil
which has been brushed with oil.

Cook 20 minutes, then turn and cook another 20 minutes, turn over
again and get both sides to a golden brown. Watch carefully not to
over cook. Let cool on pan.

BAKE UNTIL LIGHT BROWN - WILL DARKEN IF REHEATED.

To reheat either version, microwave on 50% for 30 seconds, then place
in preheated 300 degree oven for about 15 minutes.

Have not yet reheated from frozen leftovers - will report later.

Serve warm with garnish if desired.

Hebrew National, no-fat variety. We have been eating them for a while
because they had a good weight watcher rating. But, we are about to
branch out on the theory that since we don't have them all that often it
does not matter as much how low-cal they might be. I think we are about
to give the Costco 1/4 pound all beef hot dogs a try. Don't know how
many of those one gets in a package.

Ah... It's been so long since I bought any hotdogs that I really haven't
been paying attention to what's available and what's in them... But I'd
not likely be buying no-fat dogs in any case.... And low-cal isn't a
criteria for us except as it happens naturally in a food....
