It irritates me when the jackdaws have such success when
there are so many other less obnoxious and more worthy
    candidates going begging.
Some aren't so impressed by the jackdaws... and see the worth of quiet ones...

There is some sense in the world, but too little.

world. I will point out, though, that home
or private education is not an excuse for not
supporting public efforts, same with any kind of
infrastructure levy that contributes to the
common good - highways, sewers, water, what have
you. To me, though, taxes to pay for football
    stadiums are an unconstitutional taking.
We paid our school taxes whether our kid was in private school or in public... and continue to do so, now that he's full grown.... And were actively involved with whichever school he was in at the time... And I
think I agree with you on taxes for football stadiums being wrong...

It's been shown that the economic booms promised by
proponents of new zillion-dollar sports stadiums just
don't happen. Baseball comes closer to breakeven, but
    even it's not significant.

Most of the kids I'm in contact with seem to know the skit... of course, most of them are also homeschooled, or really into baseball and even the fun stuff around it... :)
You must run around in classier circles than I do!
    Possibly.

The kids (30 and below) I'm acquainted with are
more likely to know the repertoire of Louics CK
and the latest crop of hip-hop/rappers.

What's nonfat sour cream - nonfat sour additives? -
An oxymoron, for starters.... and yes, probably nothing but sour additives... ;0
... Who needs veggies or nutrition? Bring on the luscious fat!
    Fat is nutrition.
Totally agree with you there... the tag expresses opinions other than
mine... except for the lusciousness of fat.... (G)

    Well, bring it on, anyway.

Cool the cooked meatloaf for 30 minutes, then tilt the tin and pour
off the juices. Set aside in a cold place overnight before serving
to allow flavours to blend and mature.

M's note: lean bacon? lean pork belly? wwtt?
Could help explain why British food is so bland.... I note they also
call for pouring off the juices.... more flavor lost....

The thing is until not so long ago the Brits
embraced fat, what they could get anyway.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v7.07

    Title: Grasmere Gingerbread
    Categories: Breads, British
    Servings: 18

    1 lb Fine oatmeal
    1/2 ts Baking powder
    4 ts Ground ginger
    1 pn Allspice
    1/2 lb Pale muscovado sugar
    1/2 lb Butter
    2 tb Golden syrup

Line a swiss roll or baking tin measuring about 9 x 13 inches with
    bakewell
or greaseproof paper and grease it well. Stir the dry ingredients
together. Melt the butter and syrup over low heat, pour on to the dry
ingredients and stir well to make a fairly stiff mixture. Spread the
mixture evenly over the base of the prepared tin and bake at 350 F (180
    C)
gas mark 4 for 25-30 minutes. Do not be alarmed by the fact that the
mixture will look a little runny when it emerges from the oven; this is
normal. Mark the biscuits into fingers or squares while still warm but
leave in the tin until completely cold. Don't make the biscuits very big
    ~
they are chewy and very filling. Good exercise for the jaws and high in
calories. Source: Philippa Davenport in "Country Living" (British), March
    1989.

    True.

So I've observed over the years...

Most of the kids I'm in contact with seem to know the skit... of

Less of that in my circles, to be sure... in my neighborhood that could
be the case, but, without a child in the household here any more, I have
less occasion to interact with them....

Perhaps now that it is more available, they are succumbing to the
"popular opinion" about the indesirability thereof....?
