Odd man out is the one who didn't win all the majors
in his sport - Palmer. Arcaro too was a golfer. Well,
Arcaro might be the odd man out in that he didn't win
any majors at all in golf.
So odd man could be either one of the above. Just depends on which sport
you follow more I guess. I'd heard of Eddie Arcaro as a jockey but not
    the golfer.

The original question was who never won all the majors
in his sport. I forget which one Palmer didn't get but
    one could look it up.

Palmer also played golf for Wake Forest College for a couple of
years. > This was while the college was still in town here, before
they moved to > Winston-Salem and became a university.
And confused the banoonoos out of everyone.
Yes, the local historical association sells a T-shirt that reads "Wake Forest: Where the University Got Started". Amazing, how many people
think that the university is in the town.

In Boston, you get people wandering around dazed, looking
for Arlington, and to help them you first must determine if
they're looking for Arlington Street (downtown Boston) or
Arlington (a town a few miles north). Or "how do I get to
Harvard?" - the joke answer is "study hard" but doesn't
help. It's extra disconcerting when they ask the question
is asked at the top of the Harvard Square station - people
don't seem to comprehend that there are several campuses,
three, seven, eleven, maybe twenty depending on how you
count, and the Boston-area facilities encompass thousands
of acres, and anyhow they're staring at the most famous
part already. Not to mention the town Harvard, which used
to but no longer does have anything to do with the school.
If you're interested in the Alcotts/Allcotts, you want to
    go there rather than Cambridge.

She peaked before shehit her teens. From what we saw of her "career" before turning pro, it looked like it was a case of parental
pushing. > She had some talent that they pushed, but not enough to sustain for an > extended time.
    Heck, I peaked around puberty.
    But not in golf. (G)

No, in golf, I shot a 100-odd in my 20s, although on a
short course. That was the best I did.

    (phoenix area baseball)
Not to worry - if my eyesight and finances don't
improve substantially, there will be no reason to
    go back there.
We've got other reasons to go to the area. (G)
And you get to see them for free!
    Basically, yes.
We see a lot more of them thru text message pictures but, hey, better
than not seeing them at all.

As with those relatives who aren't so close,
whatever works. It's fortunate for us that we
have different modes and avenues of communication
that can be opened and closed as needed.

Well, put a fiver in every week anyway.
Might do that to get some spending money for the trip. Or, grocery
buying money, as the need may arise.

I don't practice quite what I preach anyway.

We use more breasts, if buying pieces. If we get a whole chicken,
then > all of it gets used.
Thighs work best to my taste in all applications,
but then I don't make blancmange. I even use thighs
in schnitzel, and, although the texture is quite
different, the flavor is more intense.
I'll still use the white meat for schnitzel.

If I have white meat, that's one of my preferred ways
    of using it.

Title: Zuccini Schnitzel with Leeks,Peppers in Sour Cream Sauce
It's one of the WWTT category recipies. (G)

    Yep.

    Pork Shank (Chamorro de Cerdo)
    Categories: Mexican, main, slow cooker
    Serves: 3

    3 pork shanks
    1/2 sm pk achiote paste
    Salt and pepper to taste
    1/2 white onion, chopped
    1 1/2 c orange juice
    3 Tb parsley, finely chopped
    2 garlic cloves, minced

Rinse shanks; no need to pat dry. Place the shanks as
best you can to fit in the slow cooker. Tight is OK
because they shrink as the cook.

Mix all the other ingredients and pour over the shanks.
Cover the pot and cook on high for 7 to 8 hr. Turn to
low and keep warm until you are ready to eat.

Serve with an ample serving of either corn or flour
    tortillas.

    OK, it's a fore-gone conclusion that I didn't know Arcaro was a golfer
nor Palmer never won all the majors in golf. I'm not tee-d off about it
    tho.

Palmer also played golf for Wake Forest College for a couple

There's also Arlingtons in TX and VA.

Arlington (a town a few miles north). Or "how do I get to
Harvard?" - the joke answer is "study hard" but doesn't

Same as "how do I get to Carnegie Hall? Practice, practice, practice"
    sort of joke.

help. It's extra disconcerting when they ask the question

to but no longer does have anything to do with the school.

There's also a blink and you miss it Harvard, NY along Route 30 in NY,
not too far off Route 17. A family in the town of Andes had the last
name Harvard; their son got a scholarship to the school because there
    was some distant connection.

If you're interested in the Alcotts/Allcotts, you want to
    go there rather than Cambridge.

Semi interested; I read a lot of LMA's books when I was younger.

I've played a few rounds of mini but don't remember any scores except
    that they were never outstanding.

More so than when we were growing up or bringing up our daughters.

I don't practice quite what I preach anyway.

How many of us do? It is an idea to save for a trip, night on the town,
or whatever but usually the money is spent on something needed more
    urgently.

We've tried baking it, instead of frying--works quite well overall. It
keeps the stove top cleaner too. (G)
