There are a lot of Korean golfers in the LPGA now, most names
hardly known outside of the country. Michelle Wie, the teen age
phenom that we heard a lot about while we were in HI, is in her
late 20s but has only won one major, one minor tournament since
turning pro at age 16. Paula Creamer is a bit older than Michelle
but did better some years ago, same as Anika Sorenstam. Those
names might be vaguely familiar. (G)
Yup, those are all names I recognize, now that I see them... I've
really not kept up... Once in a while, during golf season, someone
might be mentioned on the news, but since it's just the 3-min-top-
of-the-hour type news, women's golf is even rarer than men's... ;)

Presumably the 3 minute top of the hour news mentioned that Tiger
Woods won his 5th Master's on Sunday?

    Yes it did.... :)

The N&O had several articles on
the tournament this past week, including one about the plastic drink
cups used at the tournament. They appear to be collector's pieces, not that I'd want one. (G)

Maybe had you gone to the tournament, you'd be more likely to bring one
    home... :)

From what I recall reading about previous
tournaments, pimento cheese sandwiches (it's a southern thing) are big sellers at the Master's refreshment stands.

Is that the pimento cheese spread, spread on bread, type of
sandwiches...? And probably white bread....? ;) We had the spread
growing up... don't remember details as to where we were at the time...
came in little glass jars that could be used as juice glasses
    afterwards.... ;)

N&O does give women's golf the short end of the stick also. They might list all the players/standings in a men's tournament but only the top
10, if they even bother with that, for a women's. They get by with it
by saying you can get more information on line.

That's a cop out.... Since Rochester is (at least often) a stop on the
LPGA tour, the paper used to be rather good about coverage for the
ladies tour.... might still be, but as I don't get it anymore, don't
    really know... :)

I could read the newspager but it was harder to hold a book or magazine comfortably with that machine. Even the newspaper was a pain. I also
didn't want to try eating while on it so we worked meals around the

Not I... not likely front page news, so I'd not see it in the
store newspaper display... and I avoid tv... ;)
Ours is on very little. I did watch a lot of "junk" tv (mostly
old shows, some PBS, some other) while on the knee bending
machine because 2 hours of that, twice a day, was a lot of
    otherwise empty time.
That's almost a reasonable excuse... I take it you couldn't use
    the time for reading...?

I could read the newspager but it was harder to hold a book or
magazine comfortably with that machine. Even the newspaper was a pain.

    Too awkward, eh....

I also didn't want to try eating while on it so we worked meals around
the scheduled times--which meant for some meals, an off hour but.......

That makes sense... good thing that phase is over and done with... :)

From what I recall reading about previous tournaments,
pimento cheese sandwiches (it's a southern thing) are big
sellers at the Master's refreshment stands.
Is that the pimento cheese spread, spread on bread, type of
sandwiches...? And probably white bread....? ;) We had the
spread growing up... don't remember details as to where we
were at the time... came in little glass jars that could be
used as juice glasses afterwards.... ;)
Yes, I'll have to look up some recipes for it. I don't know if
it comes in the little glasses or maybe now plastic tubs but I
understand it's fairly easy to make. And, white bread is the
traditional one to serve it on. (G)
Of course. ;) As I recall, it went nicely on crackers, too...
Or as a spread on veggies. Thin it a bit and it could be a dip.
    Or even not thinned, especially...
True, some veggies it would work well "as is". Ones like
broccoli or cauliflower might be better having the pimento
cheese thinned a bit for better dipping consistancy.
    Possibly... :)

It's good as a dip or veggie spread, but not really as a sandwich.

Oh, I don't know.... Spread thickly on good solid bread (whole wheat,
rye or pumpernickel), it could be right nice... ;)

internet. I tend to look at scores/standings than read sports
stories in depth now--my focus has shifted quite a bit since I
    was younger.
I used to be interested in the human-interest type stories...
giving more background on the players...
They're good in their place but showing more of them than the
actual competition (as in American tv coverage of Olympic games)
is not the place to do it.
I was thinking more of the newspaper accounts... I could skim
the articles that told of the actual play-by-play, and get
enough of that... but it was learning about the players that I
liked better... Agreed that if TV coverage of the actual events,
that should be more the focus than the human-interest....

That's why, when we were in Germany, we watched the Olympics on the
    German tv channels. (G)

Didn't matter if some of it got lost in translation, you could see the
actual events as they happened.... ;)

Yes, and at the last therapy session, they measured 93 degrees of bend
    in the knee.

Probably so, got to be better than the cheese sandwiches (just a slice
of "plastic" cheese slapped between a couple of slices of white bread, a
smear of yellow mustard) I had to endure as a kid.

More, with fewer commercial breaks or back stories. Nice!
