Have you ever been to a Popeyes?

Just once, many years ago. I remember it as very good. Popeyes has
recently expanded into Canada and now has two stores in Edmonton.
I intend to go to one of them on my next trip there. I also want to
hit up a Nando's while I'm there too.

Hot please! We like Buffalo wings.

    As do I.

    Do places up there deliver?

Lots of restaurants do but not the supermarkets. We used to have a
delivery service that would pick up anything, anywhere for a fee.
But the old guy retired and the second owner used the business as a
front for drug deliveries and is now in jail.

It's been a week since I posted anything so instead of posting what
we made for dinner last night I'll just touch on the highlights for
the week and skip over the mundane meals.

My BIL Matthew was cleaning out his freezer in preparation for the
spring goose season which will probably be any day now, three weeks
early due to our crazy weather. He had two ducks left from last
fall's hunt and gifted me with one of them. I roasted it on Sunday
and found it to be exceeding tough (undoubtedly an older bird) so
after sampling half a breast I stewed it very gently at a bare
simmer for three more hours. The meat is VERY dark, and quite gamey
    tasting, almost livery. And the stock is very strong. I like it;
    Roslind not so much.

She came back from her monthly trip to Kugluktuk on Monday with a
rare treat ... muskox! It's in the freezer for now. Muskox is
related to bison and cattle and is a sedentary beast so it is mild
tasting and tender compared to anything in the venison family.

Tonight we had fresh oysters from Wiegardt Bros. Inc, in Washington
who sell under the Jolly Roger label. They were farmed and shucked
on April 14, shipped to Yellowknife in 16 oz jars by April 16 and
marked best before April 18. Tonight they were marked down 50% so I
got nine large oysters packed in water and their own juices for just
$7. I thought it wisest to cook them as they were already 3 and 1/2
days old already so I made a chowder. I didn't have the traditional
ingredients on hand: onion, celery, parsley and sherry so I winged
it with Filipino fermented shrimp paste, a diced potato, white and
green chopped leeks, a wee bit of Caribe chile pepper and vermouth,
all in a roux thickened turkey broth, milk and cream base. It turned
out quite nicely. Roslind's sister was here helping with the
bookkeeping so I made 3 cups worth with 3 oysters each. It was a
nice treat for all of us, so far from the coast. I'd rate the
oysters and the chowder objectively as a C- but upgraded to a B due
    to location.

    Cheers

    Jim

I'd put my "dough" behind Popeye's in any case.

Agreed, they are better but they're also further away. We have C-F-A within 2 or 3 miles, nearest Popeye's is down in Raleigh, probably
about 15-18 miles away. It doesn't make sense to go there if the rest
of our "run around" is in WF.

Until a few months ago, our nearest Popeyes was about that distance
away in Laurel. We would go there when we had some other errand to do
in that area. Then they opened a Popeyes that is only about 4-5 miles
away, essentially still in Columbia. We have gotten food from their
twice. First time was good. Second time we got a mixed five piece
bucket and Gail's thigh piece was dripping grease. If that continues,
we will not go back. Too bad!

I don't quite get the "serve with strawberry cream cheese" in this
recipe. Maybe the soft-spread is soft enough to use as a dip, not sure.

We've thought it would be nice if they opeed on in WF, got rid of some
of the other fast food places. There are at least 2 Bojangles places but
    we like Popeye's better.

in that area. Then they opened a Popeyes that is only about 4-5 miles away, essentially still in Columbia. We have gotten food from their twice. First time was good. Second time we got a mixed five piece
bucket and Gail's thigh piece was dripping grease. If that continues,

Hopefully that was a one off. I don't recall ever getting any Popeye's
chicken like that but probably would not go back to that particular
    place if I did.

I don't quite get the "serve with strawberry cream cheese" in this

It looks like it's supposed to be a dip for the sandwich, not that I
would use it for such. I'd have the sandwich without, save the dip for something crunchy (pretzel sticks, anyone?).

Might have been an inexperienced cook, with it being a new location...
You could just ask for extra napkins... greasy is better than dried out,
    after all... :)

I was thinking one could spread it on the top of the sandwich, it
certainly would be soft enough for that... And if the battered/fried
bread is stiff enough, it should be able to be dipped into the
    soft-spread cream cheese anyway....
