He turned on the gas and he went to sleep
That happens too. And you just hope the person didn't leave a
    live
animal stuck in the house not to be found until too late.
It's not a decision to be taken lightly,
and I'd hope that the person would make
    suitable preparations before the act.
One would hope, but a lot of people in that frame of mind aren't
    thinking too straight by definition.

In which case there's nothing to be done and pets
and friends and relations, they're collateral damage.
I refuse to rule out situations in which suicide is
excusable or at least the solution that causes the
    least pain to others.

close touch with him. He says he got a
    promotion at work, though.
    We can but hope.
    Oh, for sure.
But not hold out too much?

Eh, he's not a liar, and if he said something happened,
    chances are it did.

Insanity seems to be a prerequisite for running for political
    office
    these days.
It used to be a combination of
    exhibitionism and masochism. Now no
sane person would think of trying.
Now you need a cluster of personality disorders. They're almost a prerequisite.

I had a spirited conversation with a committed small
d democrat and possibly a big D Democrat about that
very issue today. As I've said, the Catholic formula
for being a bishop cuts to the meat of the issue. In
the installation ritual, the candidate must say "nolo
episcopari" - meaning, I really don't want the job.
That's the way I feel would be the only way of
    getting sane, honest politicians.

    aren't any Ubermenschen.
Weird menschen of course are universal.
Everyone is unter in some way.
Or at least not sure of where they are. Confused Menschen are
    universal.

    I take it you've met a few?

Title: Chick Pea - Zucchini Curry
This isn't as wrong as some.

    Pretty darned wrong, though.

Speaking of wrong. Today's dinner was spinach with
goat cheese salad, murgh in paneer sauce with basmati,
and a Bisquick shortcake with ricotta. A truly wwtt
meal, but one says, eh, that's the airlines for you.

There are times, but in those cases I'd be making sure the animals at
    least didn't suffer.

Get someone who takes the job "because somebody has to do it"?
People who want power are most often those who ought to have the
    least of it.

Speaking of confused Menschen; this was written by a confused cook.

The salad sounds fine if you do dairy, but a bisquick shortcake? No.
    Just no.
