    When my friend Tom comes to town from
    Portland he always brings local products
    to show off. Here's one that didn't quite
    show off well.

    Moonstruck Oregon Distillers Collection
    Product contains up to 5% alcohol content.
    (by weight) Sale of this product to a person
    under the age of 21 is prohibited in the
    following states: CA, CO, FL, KY, LA, MD,
    MN, NH, NH, NJ, OR, TX, WA. Other states
    available for sale and distribution without
    restriction: AZ, IL, MS, NV, NC, VA, WV.
    Should not be consumed by women who are
    pregnant or nursing.

    What the big deal is I'm not sure - I can't
    see that eating one would cause any health
    effect to someone of any age - the consequence
    of the theobromine or other alkaloid would
    undoubtedly be more relevant. The amount of
    ethanol consumed per dose would be just over
    half a gram, approximately that of an adult
    dose of cough syrup, If one has an objection
    to intentionally ingesting alcohol, fine, but
    restricting sale, how weird. Not a big thing,
    what the big deal is about the product itself
    I don't understand either - mediocre chocolate
    with mediocre flavors.

    So these are chocolate soft-centers (they
    call them truffles) featuring local boozery
    products.

    tldr - Don't bother, the chocolate is of decent
    but not special quality; the fillings are smooth,
    not too sweet, but don't taste particularly good.

    The flavors, in order of their appearance in the box:

    Oregon Spirit Distillers Absinthe - the most
    distinctive of the lot - strong star anisey
    aroma, dark anisetty taste;

    Bull Run Straight Bourbon Whiskey - the most
    acrid of them all; distinguishable from the other
    whiskey one because it was made with dark rather
    than milk chocolate; still not very interesting;

    New Deal Distillery Ginger Liqueur - the flavor
    was distinctive but not exactly gingery, more
    herbally. I didn't figure out it was supposed to
    be ginger until I read the box;

    Clear Creek Distillery Oregon Pear Brandy - modest
    fruitiness, not much else;

    Clear Creek Distillery Oregon Apple Brandy - ditto,
    but one could sort of detect a cidery aspect, not
    very pronounced; I wondered if there would have
    been enough apple in it to make it an allergen;

    Rogue Ale Dead Guy Whiskey - made with milk
    chocolate, this was slightly milder than the Bull Run
    but otherwise no better;

    House Spirits Distillery Coffee Liqueur - okay, this
    was the second most recognizable, though one would be
    excused for imagining it was artificial maple flavored;

    India Spirits Oregon Marionberry Vodka - again, a bit
    of fruitiness, recognizable as berry when prompted, a
    bit more acrid than average;

    Crescendo Limoncello - slight citrusiness, identified
    by one taster as orange.
