True.. I'd just as soon the quieter, though.... ;)
We're like that. Otherwise, we'd be more in the
public eye, whether we were good at anything or not.
    This is true... :)

It's interesting to see that there are folks
out there who are celebrated just because.

I probably have some of those stashed away, maybe even one in my wallet.... ;) Only business cards I've ever had.... ;)
Patrick of echo picnic fame once took it
upon himself to design me a business card.
    It wasn't me.
The kid didn't do too badly... of course he did consult with me... ;)
    Your kid wasn't probably manic-depressive.
Probably not... although at one point he faked being suicidal in order
to get his parents into counseling.... ;/

Okay, that works for some people. Nothing worked
to get my parents mental health help, though
they could have seriously benefited from it.

If it went back to the original participation, that was pretty much good clean fun... the ramped up ones were where things got bad...
    We're living in a ramped-up world.
Sad to say.... I'd just as soon it ramped down some.... :)

    For sure.

I went back and looked - I used the present tense
once, in an apparent effort to temporarily disguise
his identity. Gunther also claimed a bizarre ability
    to hear polyrhythms - 7 against 5 or 6, for example;
the best I could ever do was 5 against 2 or 3 or 4.
I can somewhat hear them, but I have enough problems playing 2 against
3... I can usually work it out and play it fine, but it almost always requires special effort...

2 against 3 is not that hard to wrap one's
head around, because it's a staple of all
those fun-loving Germans, but playing it
could be difficult. The slow movement of the
Sibelius violin concerto requires the soloist
    to do double-stops in 2 against 3, and it's
one of those sly secret tours de force that
hardly goes noticed by te concert audience.

    4. It was a bit of a parlor trick but still quite
impressive. I tried it and failed miserably; on
the other hand I failed at conducting in general.
More power to him... :) I've not actually tried conducting, but I
probably wouldn't be all that great at it either... :)

I've been paid to do it but don't like it for
    a bunch of reasons.

Dreams are like little adventures. I hate the
anxiety ones, same way I hate horror movies.
    ...
    I don't mind the nice adventures... ;)

I should hope. I actually look forward to them.

... "Gin rummy with Brandy's scotched, Bud" whined Sherry wryly.
    And Anisette?
Pretty much ignored all the liqueurs, didn't it.... :)

    But what did she say?

    Ezra's Heartening Chicken Gizzard Soup
    categories: literary, main, soups/stews
    servings: 4

    1 lb chicken gizzards
    2 Tb butter
    3 garlic cloves, finely chopped
    2 Tb flour
    1 ts salt or tt
    1/2 ts pepper or tt

Put the chicken gizzards, salt, and pepper in a
large pan and add cold water to cover. Place over
medium heat and bring to the boil. Reduce the heat
    and simmer for 1 hr.

Remove the gizzards with a slotted spoon, saving
    the broth, and chop coarsely.

Melt the butter in a small pan over medium heat and
add the garlic and flour. Cook, stirring, 1 to 2 min.

Bring the gizzard broth to the boil, stir a little
of the broth into the garlic paste, then stir the
paste back into the broth. Add the chopped gizzards
and simmer 15 min. Season well and serve.

I think I saw a tagline to that effect at one point... something about
being famous because one was well-known... or something like that...

I probably have some of those stashed away, maybe even one in my wallet.... ;) Only business cards I've ever had.... ;)

Here it probably worked because his mother was a counselor herself, and
his father figured that if the kid had problems it was a family problem
that we all should be working at... I've gathered that your parents
didn't have that going for them...

Sad to have that not noticed... ;) As a high-schooler, I was doing a
duet version of Schubert's Rosamunde music with a friend... She was
doing triplets to my eighths... as long as I just went oompa-oompa (I
was secundo, she was primo), I was fine.... listening to hers and trying
to connect was a little more challenging... <G>

I hear you... :) But, as concertmaster (at least at times), I
understand that conducting might be expected of you.... ;)
