OK, still will be fun to compare. I used recipies from all over
the book, ranging from the soybean granola to the gingerbread
with wheat germ and a lot in between. The Indonesian shrimp
burgers (pia-pia) were one of our favorites when we lived on
the coast and could get shrimp at a better price. I also grew
my own sprouts on a more regular basis when we lived there.
I was using the NY Times Natural Foods cookbook at the same time,I was using MITK, Deaf Smith Country Cookbook, James Beard (a basics, covers a lot but not whole grain--I made the recipies whole grain) cookbook, some Betty Crocker Picture Cookbook recpies (also made them whole grain) and probably others. When "Whole Foods for the Whole
along with MITK (LLL), as my primary three cookbooks...
Family" came out in 1981, I got a copy--used it a lot then, and still
use it a lot.
Cole slaw can be a "safe" thing to try, to help assess how good
a new place is... and/or to fill out a meal... At Friendly's,
I tend to get the cole slaw and the steamed broccoli... and
maybe snitch one french fry from Richard... don't really want a
full order of fries anyway... :)
Both Steve and I usually order side salads instead of fries.
Richard might order a side salad on occasion... but I'd not,
since it wouldn't have Fu's dressing for it.... ;0
I try to get 1,000 Islands, if not I'll ask for Italian (or light
Italian) or balsamic vinegar. The latter ones are Steve's usual
choice. There may be others, depending on where we are, that may
be considered as well but those are the usuals. (G)
I used to usually get blue cheese dressing.... but then I stopped
being able to digest the lettuce and cucumbers.... only thing that
lets me eat them now is Fu's dressing.... :)
I never cared for blue cheese dressing. Since Steve said it was one of
his favorites (talking about it before we got engaged), I gave it a
try once. It was way too strong for me--overpowered the rest of the
salad. I like blue cheese in small amounts but that was way too much!
Side note--my parents, once Dad started eating salad, bought only blue cheese dressing. If we were visiting, I usually had my salad without dressing or sometimes made my own version of 1,000 Islands.

We have different taste profiles... :) Just as well, since there are
all those choices... :)

At least you knew how to make do... ;)
