• 924 Corning and going

From MICHAEL LOO@1:123/140 to JIM WELLER on Thursday, February 07, 2019 10:18:58
Corning Ware store. Got there and the shelves were almost
are--they were going out of business. Wonder if all of them
are, or just that particular one; we didn't ask.
Strange - that brand always struck me as one
    of the reliables.
The company split in two some time ago. Corning still exists but now

Looked up the convolutions of the Corning
companies and ventures. Made my head spin.

only makes industrial and scientific specialty glass, ceramics,
optical fibre and other similar things. The old consumer kitchenware
division is now a separate company called Corelle Brands. The latter
compnay has had it's ups and downs and reorganizations.

Worse, the product has changed. I broke a
Corningware pot that should have been stove-
safe but turned out to be some kind of cheap
reformulated Chinese product (but stiil, so
far as anyone knows, legally Corningware).

Of course, who thought that Sears would go away?
They failed to adapt. Between the Internet and Walmart they were
doomed, just like so many other old time dept. store chains.

I suppose, and unlikely survivors remain,
thanks to luck or corporate forsight. I am
still wondering why Barnes & Noble survived
and Borders didn't. Perhaps it was because
of the reverse Midas touch of Kmart.

Continuing with meatfree and/or simple things:

Ergk. I'll take simple, thanks very much.

    We all lose.

... American tea is every bit as good as British coffee, unfortunately.

    American coffee, too.

Something I can get behind, even though it's meatfree:

    Whipped cream
categories: California, New York, dessert, garnish
    servings: 6

    1/3 c heavy whipping cream
    1/2 ts vanilla
    1 Tb powdered sugar

In bowl, whip cream with vanilla and sugar until stiff.

This was a reader request to the LA Times
equivalent of Food Detective. Why anyone needs
a recipe for whipped cream, much less some
proprietary version of it, I've no idea.

That's sad.... Do you mean that one can't cook with the new
    "Corningware"....?

Barnes & Noble were forethoughtful enough to get the college
franchises (or maybe just locations).... Both RIT and UR have their own
B&N stores on or just off campus.... dunno about the other colleges....
But for RIT and UR, B&N is _the_ campus bookstore....

    Hello NANCY.

B&N is in the process of selling its college bookstore division to Follett. They're getting out of the college bookstore business as Follett is buying them
    all out.
