I keep telling Steve that turkey bacon is not a substitute for the
real thing. (G) The mouth feel isn't the same, nor does it cook like
    real

But I also keep saying that it is more like Canadian Bacon in that it is
very lean and cooks much the same way. If one insists it has to be like
fatty bacon, it will come up lacking. However, I think it is good when
    taken for what it is.

    Hi Nancy,

Good practices... As things heal up, I'm sure the range of
motion will ease up, too... As some doctor a long time ago told
me, make haste slowly.... i.e. don't rush things, so that the
desired outcome will come sooner.... ;)

I'm now off the cane for around the house but still on the second
    "stop therapy" order.

Good on the first, not so good on the second....

The knee is also wrapped in gauze/ace bandage so I can't bend it too
much, even if I wanted to. Makes for a bit of a stiff legged walk but,
beats having to still use the walker.

It's a set back because I can't do the range of motion exercises
needed. But, I've got to get the incision line fully healed
so, have to go with things as they are.

Yup, you don't want to pull the incision apart.... Just need to be
    patient on that one... :)

Being able to do a lot of my usual "routine" stuff helps. I made supper
the other night from a recipe we tasted over at Publix. We decided it
wasn't a keeper but, wouldn't have known if we'd not done the full
    version.

    Or after a work out.
    That, too....

Ice time then, for a bit.

    Yup... promote the healing...

    It all helps.

He saw I was struggling. We've now agreed that for most places,
it's easier for him to let me off at the door, then pick me up
at the door when we're done.
    Makes sense to me... ;)

Something we should have worked out before but didn't think to.

Some things aren't as obvious as you'd think, until one is actually
    trying to do them.... :)

True, tho today down in Raleigh we were able to park close enough to the
door at BJs (checked them out on a free pass, decided not to join) and
Costco. I walked back to the truck at BJs but Steve brought it up to the
entry overhang at Costco. He then gave me an umbrella escort (as he did
the other times) after loading our purchases.

Thought we could get a cart at W-M yesterday but none
were available so I ended up pushing the buggy for a bit.
I've had that happen to me at BJs... apparently not really
enough of the ride-em carts to meet the demand....

Must have picked a busy time of day to go. We'll try to go at "off"
times, if possible, especially now. Went to Whole Foods on
Saturday--no carts at all there and the store was crowded. Spent less
time than usual in there but got what we wanted, plus extras. (G)

At least you got what you'd come in for... ;)

Yes, we hadn't originally planned to make a stop there but decided to
get a few things since we were close to them. We always stop at the
cheese section and pick up new one or 2 to try. (G)

It's happened, more than once. (G) BTW, finally felt like doing
a bit of (hand) sewing the other night--finished off the last 2
baby quilts. The shower is the end of next week.
Very good. :) That's a relief, I'm sure... done just in time...
    :)

I knew they would be, just a matter of getting the mind set to sew.

    Focus... ;)

I started to refocus on sewing by sorting thru a good sized pass along
of fabric yesterday. I was given it just before my surgery and it was
taking up needed space in the sewing room. Most of it is going to be
rehomed but found some that I could use.

Not sure when I'll go back to the
quilting group as therapy is usually on Wednesday.
Can you schedule the therapy for another day of the week, or is
    that the only opening....?

I have to see a certain therapist, available M-W-F and have to work
around what's open on those days. I'll be seeing the doctor tomorrow,
will ask how long he wants me to do therapy. Then I'll try to schedule
    for M/F, if possible.

That would make sense... and give you more of a chance to get back to
more normal activities as well... :)

    That's the intent.

Is it a smaller space than Fu's...? We've accomodated up to
about a NB>> dozen there, at least when things aren't too hopping...
    (G) And
that's without taking over the whole place, too..

Definatly smaller than Fu's. We could probably do 8-10, maybe up to 12 people if we made arraingements in advance. Weather permitting, more seating is available outside but probably better to be seated inside
    if we're making reservations.

That's pretty small... yeah, reservations would be a good idea, and
having them for indoors as well, since one can't really predict the weather.... maybe it could be flexible to go outdoors if the weather
    is good....?

Something to look into. Have to see if the group wants to go out for
Italian on Thursday night or if we should plan on eating at the house.

I'd like to find a mom & pop's type bbq
place for Friday night but may end up going for something else.
There's time to figure it all out.... :)

Yes, and as I mentioned to Dale, there's the possibility of our doing
a bbq dinner on Thursday night, go out for prime rib on Friday.

    That could work... :)

    Decisions, decisions.............

occurring fast or in conjunction with heavy rain.... mostly the
old snow has been about gone by the time we've had new, too,
    this NB>> winter....

And after buying a new coat last fall, we've had an over all mild
winter. I think I've worn it maybe half a dozen times.

That's the way it goes.... I've only worn my "winter jacket" a couple
of times this year, and the same last year.... but as you've said for something else, better to have and not need, than to need and not
    have... ;)

We've not had to make any fast trips up north this winter (saw on
tonight's news that the eastern half of NY is getting clobbered) and
only had the one big storm here. It's finally going to be above freezing
    at night all next week.

Start putting things on paper--figuring out quantities so we neither run
short nor have a super abundance of left over stuff. If the latter, we'd probably take it in to church for LG or similar.

    Hi Nancy,

work, we've got a few other options to try--the plasma injection
like Steve had is one. Another is having several stitches put
in, third is medical grade Super glue. Of course prayers help
with any/all of the above, as well. (G)
Hopefully things are resolving by now...? The Super Glue does
appear to have some merit... ;) Good that you could at least
resume some of the therapy... :)

I had a couple of good work outs in the last few days, another one
    coming up tomorrow.

Good. That should help the overall healing... :)

Slowly, but making progress. I did not stand for the Easter choir today however. I'm trying to go up steps the normal way but didn't lift the
right knee quite high enough going to the stage area and my toe hit the
step above. It let me know that the knee is still mending.

Saw the doctor today--it looks like the honey is
working. He said it might take a couple of months to heal from the
inside out, but it looks like there's finally some progress. We may
not have to go with the Super Glue or restitching options.

Also good.... As long as the incision is healing properly, and keeps healing, that's a good thing... glad the honey seems to be doing the trick... ;)

It's an old remedy that has been usurped by newer, faster ways to
accomplish the same thing--when they work. And no, not too much of it is
used at a time, plus it's covered so my knee isn't sticky. (G)

That's what we found out. The major difference was that I used
peach jam (listed as an option) instead of the apricot listed as
first choice. I used a lower sugar, home made jam but the dish
was RH>> still too sweet for our liking. I also served it with brown
    rice
    instead of white.
Apricot does tend to be a little more tart than peach...

Even the sample we tasted at Publix (made with apricot jam) was too
    sweet.

Had you used a home-made less sugar apricot jam, it might have been
closer to what you'd be happy with... but if it wasn't all that great
a recipe anyway, no reason to keep playing with it... ;)

That's what we figured. Discussed possible options but it came down to
the fact that neither of us were that impressed with the recipe so the
card went into the recycle bag.

RAH-ther! Had another storm last night but we were home. Hail
was predicted as a possibility so Steve put some (furniture)
blankets on the truck. No hail but he got soaked. Storm washed
all the pollen off the truck but it's back there today.

Yes, we had quite a storm system roll thru Sunday night into early Monday--washed all the pollen off the truck but now there's another
layer. It'll be this way for a few more weeks, then settle down.

We're sort of getting into pollen season here... we don't have it as
bad as you do, though... Thursday night's heavy rain did knock a lot
    of
pollen onto my windshield though, that I noticed when I used the
    wipers Friday morning... ;)

I think the pine pollen is slowing down now, finally! We've had some
days when you could see clouds of it.

We always get some cave aged gruyere. Started as a sample, now a
    favorite.
They hooked you on that sample... ;)

Very much so, not that I mind.

Some things just are worth it... (G)

That being one, a 5 year old Cheddar is another.

I started to refocus on sewing by sorting thru a good sized
pass RH>>> along of fabric yesterday. I was given it just before my surgery RH>>> and it was taking up needed space in the sewing room.
Most of it RH>>> is going to be rehomed but found some that I could
    use.
A good project to be accomplished....
Very good, now if I can get the rest of the room in order.......
Gave a mushroom themed piece of fabric to the mushroom vendor at
    the farmer's market.
    How appropriate... :)

I figured, I like to rehome where appropriate, if possible. Last year

lady due in fall is having a girl and another lady is due in November. Fall baby may have some of that flannel in her quilt. (G)

    Useful piece of fabric... :)

That's what I figured. Very much a little girl fabric. The quilt I made
for the boy expected soon (I think in a couple of weeks now.) was solid
blue flannel with alternating pieces of prints. The prints were of
sports balls, construction equipment and other little boy oriented. Used
up scraps from other projects on that one. (G)
