We always have to remember that our idea of
the sounds that correspond to letters of the
alphabet is not universally held. The problem
is compounded when you deal with other
alphabets, or, worse, in the case of Chinese,
for example, no alphabet at all.

Depends on how enlightened management is. If
they know what's good for the company, they
will welcome any marketing data they can get.

True, but I'm glad we have the chance to add our input to the company.
It can be a mutually beneficial exercise.
I used to balk at giving such information
away, because in doing so one also tends to
give away info about oneself, but now it
seems irrelevant, because someone is
constantly picking up my stats whether I
agree to it or not. For a couple decades I
refused to join a frequent-flyer program,
because I saw them as essentially data
mining, which they are, but then I figured,
what's wrong with losing a little privacy
for essentially a 10% discount (now it's
closer to 4%, which is near what regular
members used to get, but now theirs is
about halved as well, which nobody bothered
to tell anyone, and I give away most of my
mileage credits anyway). Now for me it's
all about the upgrades, and the heck with
personal freedom.
A few days ago we got those 50s in
Massachusetts. Sadly, it's back in the
normal 30s now. Luckily, I'm not there.
Plus it's supposed to be 61 on Friday
there - 7 degrees warmer than New Orleans.
We're further south for a few days, but had some bad weather on the way
down. The place where we're at had some EF0 tornadoes come thru earlier
this week--in law's place is OK but 7 places (out of 70) are
uninhabitable, others have damage that is considered fixable.
Very sad. Lots of stuff going on worldwide this week,
including a tsunami in Indonesia that killed hundreds,
a rebel attack in Afghanistan, lots of stuff.
Improvement is ardently to be hoped for.
Improved enough that I was able to sing in the Christmas choir at
church > today without problem.

Thai Tofu with Mint Leaves Salad
2 Tb chopped cilantro leaves
This has the dreaded cilantro in it; can I sub a bit of regular
parsley?
No, not, never. Omit if you can't stand just
a little of the stuff.

Hot Chinese chicken-mushroom
categories: soups, starters
yield: 1 batch, maybe 6 servings
3 cn chicken broth
2 Tb white vinegar
4 oz sliced mushrooms
1/2 Tb hot sauce)
1 beaten egg
2 Tb corn starch
2 Green onions
2 Tb soy sauce
Combine chicken broth, mushrooms, cornstarch,
soy sauce, vinegar and pepper sauce in a
saucepan. Bring to boil over high heat,
stirring constantly, until slightly thickened.
Gradually pour egg into boiling soup, stirring
constantly in one direction. Remove from heat;
stir in green onions. Garnish with additional
chopped onions or cilantro, as desired.
Serve immediately.
