I posited before that one of society's functions is
to protect those without common sense. Now I'll note
that another is to remedy the shortcomings of moms and
dads - not all parents do as well by their kids as
    yours apparently did.
Oh, mine had their shortcomings as well.... they did fairly well in some areas though... :)

All parents have shortcomings, probably even
Dr. Spock. Some (mine for example) were notably
    short on longcomings.

One should be thankful she made a half...? And did she dutifully
freeze the leftovers for you...? :)
    As it turns out, yes.
    Good.... :)

    Seems to have been.

Woody Allen wakes up after centuries to
find that everything that we had been
warned against were later proven to be
good for you, and vice versa?
Yup. Something I keep in mind... ;)
    Remember polyunsaturates?
    Yup... vaguely.... ;)

Some vegetable oils were supposed to be better
than others because of their polyunsaturate content.
Later, the replacement hypothesis was that
monounsaturates were best, saturated fats bad, and
polyunsaturates the worst. Recently the focus has
been on cis vs. trans fats and, latterly, natural
vs. nonnatural trans fats. The mind spins.

Cooking for a crowd almost necessarily
means more use of ovens and such things
that jump out and hurt you.
These days, I'm just as glad not to be cooking for a crowd.... ;)

I've never cared one way or the other
just as long as I was physically able to
    do the work.

Well I was first thinking about something like pizza... (G) The burgers do exude some juice and fat, as did the Italian sausage patties I
broiled in the oven earlier this week.... but not so much as to spill
    over the lip....
Either not enough food or not enough lusciousness!
Mostly the former, probably... only feeding the two of us, remember....
the cats only get tiny nibbles from ours, though they act sometimes like
they deserve their own huge portion (note to cats: not going to
    happen)...

It's always worth a try. I've known people
with totally obedient beasts, but the
animals were never ever given in to, and
that seems to have been the secret.

Not a pretty image. How often do you hang
out in such circles? Besides here, I mean.
Often enough.... probably half my family (with a couple much more an
issue than the rest)... certain church members.... At one point, also some of the aides etc for the people I was helping.... :)
I wonder if I'd be one whom you might have
to bite your tongue at sometimes.
I don't have to bite too hard for some people that I might not totally
agree with... I'm content with just not agreeing, and don't always have
to make arguments of things anyway... backing out isn't quite so painful
as biting the tongue to keep from saying something... ;)

This guy I respected musically and partially
relied on for gigs told this joke: What is the
brand of toiletries made for black people?
Vidal Baboon! Well, I chilled out of that
    relationship pretty quick, though his
girlfriend remained a friend of mine (she
    laughed at his jokes).

Possibly the lines were too long, so got wrapped... and when quoted
    might have further been mangled....
The lines were apparently accepted by Meal-Master
in the first place; what happens after isn't quite
so important to me. It is a matter of modest
curiosity though about whether entering messages
in full-screen mode vs. windowed mode yields
    different carriage returns.
That I'm not sure about... the ones that tend to get a more major mangle
are the recipes that have the ingredients in two columns, so the wrap is
    more likely to mix them....

Most people agree these days that the two-column
MM format causes more problems than it solves,
but I'm not going to take the trouble to fix
the ones I find. Especially if they're not
something many people are likely to make, such as

    Indeed.

And then there's all the varieties of fats that get ignored... and
    probably just as well... ;)

Cooking for a crowd almost necessarily

These days, I'm just as glad not to be cooking for a crowd.... ;)
I've never cared one way or the other
just as long as I was physically able to
    do the work.

Is that diminishing....? My younger siblings and some of my
nieces/nephews have been taking over the cooking/preparing I used to do
at the Elder Christmas gatherings.... I don't mind being more
supervisory now, generally.... I did used to get pretty worn out... :)

Well I was first thinking about something like pizza... (G) The burgers do exude some juice and fat, as did the Italian sausage patties I

My niece Christy managed that with her first dog, Puck... raised from a puppy.... he was a mix of some rather large breeds, so a good thing
    she'd trained him well....

That one didn't deserve being laughed at... I'd've chilled out of that

Funny.... a friend in the ILink Chat echo and I have been discussing a Strawberry Soup that he'd had at an Atlanta restaurant many years ago...
He'd had to be talked into giving it a try, but then really enjoyed
it.... Dunno but what this might have been similar to what he had... :)

    3 c Strawberries 1/2 c Sweet white wine
    1 c Frozen cherries 1/2 c Light cream

From what my friend said, there probably weren't any cherries in his
    version, though....
