at least twice that he would rather have been a
stockbroker or financial manager or at least rich.
I wondered whether to report him for unprofessional
behavior but figured maybe he was having a hard time
keeping up with the alimony or something like that.
Just as long as I don't get him for a doctor

The chances are minuscule; he's too expensive, too
distant both personally and geographically, and too
    offensive.

Probably some reason why he didn't, but you will, most likely, never know why.
Nor would I worry about it unless malpractice
    was involved.
Doesn't seem to be so in your case.

As Lilli and Bonnie both remind me, he might have
saved my life. He's still an asshole, though.

Let me talk with the doctor, not have him dictate to me.

    Absolutely.

No pain, no gain, I remind myself, looking at
taking my walk when it's 40 and windy and drizzly.
Right now the exercises are all indoor ones; once I get the new knee,
    I'll do more walking outdoors.

So I bailed and went with my accompanist to
warmer climes. A good idea for those with the
    resources to do so.

The stuff ended up being smooth enough but
quite dense. One could have used it as a
spread for bread, putting carbs upon carbs.
    Or garlic-scented wallpaper paste.
It needed something to thin it a bit, even a little water.
The fridge was quite devoid of anything that
    might have been appropriate.
Somebody needed to do a bit of grocery shopping.

The point is to make something edible out of
available ingredients. More found art, if you
will. With a grocery store, one can do anything.

I might raise my eyebrows at that also. (G)
You may not believe it, but they actually
sell that stuff, and not just in Hotzeplatz.
    I'm not surprised.
Hood makes it. Hood should be ashamed.
    Hood isn't sold around here.

If you've got Simply Smart, Crowley, Heluva, Axelrod,
    M. Maggio, Penn Maid, or Booth Brothers, you've got Hood.

I'm not sure what Julia's early history was
all about or where her love for cooking came
from (probably similar to that of a lot of
people, including me, it arose from a love
    of eating).
I think I read somewhere that she didn't knnow how to cook decently before the move to France.
Entirely possible. France does that to people.
And not knowing how to cook but wanting to learn.

I can't recall any famous or infamous names/faces of people I've met
or > known over the years. Met a few generals but they wouldn't
    remember me.
It's quite unlikely that Mr. Bulger would have
remembered me for long after our paths stopped
    crossing.
    The usual case.

I seldom keep track, and it's usually the other
way round, but you're probably right. There are
those of some eminence who have remembered me,
    but why I've no idea.

It's available at a Whole Foods near me, fresh
or canned. You can substitute salted parboiled
parsnips, but the effect wouldn't be quite the
same (I imagine you might get better results
    the more butter you add).
OK, I know parsnips are available around here; I've bought them from
    time to time.

There is absolutely no need to seek them out.

This is my last handy salsify recipe. I'm sure
    your heart is broken.

    Salsify or Vegetable Oyster Soup
    Categories: Soups
    servings: 4

    5 md salsify roots
    1 qt whole milk
    1 Tb butter
    salt
    pepper

Pare roots and slice or run through fruit chopper.
Boil in just enough water to cover salsify. Add
milk, butter and seasoning. Bring to a boil.

    Hi Michael,

at least twice that he would rather have been a

I wondered whether to report him for unprofessional
behavior but figured maybe he was having a hard time
keeping up with the alimony or something like that.

I know, there's little to no chance I would ever encounter him. It was a
sort of tongue in cheek comment.

Probably some reason why he didn't, but you will, most
    likely, never > ML> > know why.
Nor would I worry about it unless malpractice

    Other comments best left unmentioned.

Let me talk with the doctor, not have him dictate to me.

    Absolutely.

That's why I appreciate my primary care doctor; I can talk with him
about issues. My orthopedic doctor is also one that we can talk with,
asking all sorts of questions about the knee.

No pain, no gain, I remind myself, looking at
taking my walk when it's 40 and windy and drizzly.
Right now the exercises are all indoor ones; once I get the new
knee, > I'll do more walking outdoors.

So I bailed and went with my accompanist to
warmer climes. A good idea for those with the
    resources to do so.

I'm in a bit warmer area than NC, will be home before new year's tho.

Sometimes you really have to scrounge to get something that will work
with the other ingredients on hand in times like that.

sell that stuff, and not just in Hotzeplatz.

Don't think we have any of them.

Unless you like them. We do, from time to time. Usually cooked (steamed)
until tender, drain off any liquid and add butter. Sometimes do a mix of carrots and parsnips.

    No, not broken.
