Do people with the 2-year certification ever
go on to a four-year program, and would there be
    an advantage in doing so?
Probably -- The young lady who is an NP with my dermotologist has
training that may well be the equivalent of a Ph.D. in that she said it
was four years past her Batchelors. She also said that she has no
    interest in becoming an M.D.

I grew up in circles where it was assumed that
everyone wanted to become an MD, and when I
didn't, there was consternation all round.

OTOH, the man who was my primary care doctor started out as an NP. Not
sure how long before he went on to get his doctor's degree.

Is that the one who died? When did he do his
    degrees?

    Title: Lentil Vegetable Stew--VT

That looks like a decent recipe, but a
hunk of fatty brisket would improve it
    dramatically.

She used to be pretty much a regular; we had
some decent conversations aided perhaps by
    her not being a total zealot on the subject;
also, I seem to recall that she had played
    the viola.

It is the one who died, but I do not know the history of his degrees.
