I am an eclectic reader and subscriber to many mailing lists. So, this
regular newsletter from "Israel 21c" fell into my inbox the other day.

And then I get an e-mail from Swisher with a plaint about a comix strip presentation of Kale. In an effort to put his mind at ease (or maybe to
stir the pot) I forwarded that particular newsletter to him. So, I'm
thinking - maybe the cooking echo might like this deal.

All about printing food with a 3-D printer and making meat from veg -
without processing it through an actual animal. I found it quite
interesting and question raising (see subject line) so, here y'go

Got to be better than seitan or veggie burgers.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

    Title: All-Star Veggie Burger
    Categories: Vegetables, Breads, Herbs, Grains
    Yield: 8 Servings

15 1/2 oz Can garbanzo beans; drained,
    - mashed
    8 Fresh basil leaves; chopped
    1/4 c Oat bran
    1/4 c Quick cooking oats
    1 c Cooked brown rice
    14 oz Pkg firm tofu
    5 tb Korean barbeque sauce
1/2 ts (ea) salt & black pepper
    3/4 ts Garlic powder
    3/4 ts Dried sage
    2 ts Oil

In a large bowl, stir together the mashed garbanzo beans
    and basil. Mix in the oat bran, quick oats, and rice;
the mixture should seem a little dry.

In a separate bowl, mash the tofu with your hands,
trying to squeeze out as much of the water as possible.
Drain of the water, and repeat the process until there
is hardly any water worth pouring off. It is not
necessary to remove all of the water. Pour the barbeque
sauce over the tofu, and stir to coat.

Stir the tofu into the garbanzo beans and oats. Season
with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and sage; mix until
    well blended.

Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
Form patties out of the bean mixture, and fry them in
hot oil for about 5 minutes per side. Serve as you would
    burgers.
