On a different note, my bar was down to just vodka and the fridge had
only cranberry cocktail, grapefruit juice and club soda with lime in
it. As the the weather remained inclement I was reluctant to go out
a second time so I started wondering how those things would taste
together. It turns out to be a tasty mixture so I googled to
see if it had a name and sure enough it does.
    Title: The Seabreeze and variations
I played with various ratios and ended up preferring:
    1 oz Vodka
    2 oz cranberry juice
    2 oz Grapefruit juice

A fairly common sight down here, but so far as
I know, only in the summertime. I'd call for
    more booze with that.

And I didn't have a lime wedge handy so I turned one of these into
a highball with 1 more oz vodka and 4 oz of club soda with lime.

And endorse your improvements. You sipped
your handiwork under a heat lamp, no doubt.

    I also came across:
    The Bay Breeze
    1 oz Vodka
    2 oz Pineapple juice
    2 oz Cranberry juice
Very similar, just sub pineapple for grapefruit.

    That's a massive difference.

Lilli had a bottle of 100% pink grapefruit juice
in the fridge, and as she doesn't like the stuff,
I questioned this, and it turns out she wanted a
Greyhound, and the store didn't have any white
grapefruit juice, and Q.E.D. The bottle had one
tot out of it and otherwise had been untouched
for weeks. Luckily, I like grapefruit juice of
any color. Not so pineapple juice, which has to
    be fresh or else scorned.

The next step will be repeating the experiment with gin.

I'm presuming one with a good balance of citrus
    and evergreeny flavors, like Rangpur?

    Basil gimlet
    cat: booze
    serves: 1

    1 sm handful basil leaves
    simple syrup
    lime juice
    3 oz Ketel One

Muddle first three ingredients. Add vodka.
Shake on ice, serve straight up in a martini
glass, garnished with a basil leaf.
