So discussing it at all may be extraneous (though, as
may be pointed out, what isn't?).
We do have a tendency that way... ;)

As noted before, a lot of civilization has arisen out
of human tendencies that in isolation might now be
considered countersurvival. One of these is the urge
to revisit and hash over things that have been done with
long since. But before the advent of writing, wasn't
that the way knowledge was transmitted and preserved? We
denigrate rote in teaching nowadays, but there was a
time when that was the most effective, if not the only,
    way of nonexperiential learning.

    further, it's against the rules.
So I won't bring the Creator into it... (G) Just agree on the levels

Please don't. The subject is perhaps not so divisive
as it once might have been, but its appearance still
could open a nest of worms.

of complexity beyond our current and probably future capabilities...

We also won't get too close to the issues of
intelligent vs. stupid vs. random design.

small bits not known about can make a big difference in how the reverse engineered product actually reproduces the original... which is what I
    was saying before... :)

It can probably approach even complex products
asymptotically. As I take it, your point was that
there are some natural products or phenomena that
are too complex to completely duplicate; my point
was that there are some such that aren't.

    Pretty much moved to BC?
Well... she has family out in British Columbia (her two sons and their kids, etc)... She went out there for an extended visit, which became
even more extended.... She'd been planning to split her time between
here and there, but hasn't been back for over a year.... so effectively moved there... also working on getting credentials to stay there....
That's more than pretty much in my book!
Well, I do tend more to understatement than to exaggeration... (G) And

As I've told you a million times, don't exaggerate.

am not quite ready to accept the fact that she's changed her original intentions... ;) Part of what changed her plans, at least temporarily,
was that her dog was sick over last winter and couldn't travel, so she

It's amazing or amusing to me how much the needs of pets
    affect people's lives.

stayed there instead of following her plans to come East... But she
does have a satisfying niche in being there to help out her son and
helping to care for her grandsons... I do expect that she'll come East
for future visits, she has a lot of friends here, and misses some other aspects of the scene here, especially food and music...

Well, that's all to be expected. The purpose imparted
by grandkids is especially powerful and gratifying.

were all free and available to be used.... possibly by our company, possibly stolen from our company... they had all the account
    info... At
least we did get our very own number back.... :) And the DSL
    actually
    worked first...
Strange little pitfalls of the digital age.
I'll just be glad when things get totally straightened....
    In so many arenas.
Well, yeah.... the phone/internet do seem to be back in order completely now.... we have to wait for this month's upcoming bill to see if all the credits get properly applied....

I'm certain they have had to hire people expressly to fix
other people's mistakes or malfeasances in this way.

Nah, I probably used up all my lucky streak.... (G)
I thought they came in threes or something ... oh, yeah,
    that's misfortunes.
... If I eat beans and onions, will I make tear gas?
No, that's fear gas. But to tot up the proper number
of misfortunes, add cheese to that.
Actually, onions don't make me tear up... and cheese doesn't give me problems.... but beans sure do... :)

All three of these give me the same problem; used
to be cheese was the worst, but Lactaid and growing
old have alleviated that. Beans, well, Beano never
worked well for me. Onions do the same thing, but at
least the flatus smells like onions. It's getting to
the Mexican food is okay but in moderation for me stage.

In my experience there's been call for both rote and note in teaching
and learning.... notation whether musical or written language...

Just agree on the levels of complexity beyond our current and probably future capabilities...

I'll agree that there could be such... just that I wouldn't at all be
surprised when something heretofore unknown is discovered, and have that
    change the picture...

    Pretty much moved to BC?
Well... she has family out in British Columbia (her two sons and their kids, etc)... She went out there for an extended visit, which became

True. Richard's not immune to it, either....

But she does have a satisfying niche in being there to help out her son

I suppose... maybe someday I'll experience it first hand....

Possibly... or perhaps the existing Customer Service and other

That's progress... :) I've been getting to the point of not having as
much trouble with tomato sauce and Italian food, but am still careful to
keep it in moderation as well...
