Called Dad today for his 89th birthday; he'd just had a therapy
session and was quite worn out.
I can imagine... Was he otherwise doing well...?
He sounded quite frail. Don't know if it was from being tired or
    what.
Could be just from being tired... did you also get to talk to
    Steve's Mom...? or his sister...?

Talked to Mom also. They called Steve for his birthday; Dad didn't
talk much but sounded a lot stronger.

That's a good sign... And did Mom seem to be doing well enough, too...?

Seemed to be doing OK. The pumpkin roll that I made for Steve--the
recipe came from her when we were stationed at Fort Devens in 1992, just
back from Berlin. The other day she said that she doesn't make it much
any more but was happy to hear that I still make it at least once a
year. Maybe I ought to make one to take to FL for Christmas?

Yes, if we know there will be people there with allergies, we will hold
off or do an alternative. We made a gluten free gravy as well as a
regular one, apple crisp had no nuts in it this time and the bit of
flour needed was gluten free. I also used a dairy free sub for the
    butter needed in the topping.
