My sin was Bulgarian Bull's Blood and 7-UP.
In what way were Bulgarian bulls better than
    other bulls? Cheaper perhaps.
Back in the Communist era Bull's Blood was a Hungarian hearty, rough
red, although I understand it's more refined and somewhat Bordeaux

The Hungarian stuff was never that rough in my experience,
which was through the '70s, when it was a step up from
the Premiat (Romanian) that we used to get, which
itself was a step above some other eastern European
plonk that was so low on the totem pole that I blanked
on its name, It might have been Bulgarian. Edited to
    add: Avia was the name.

like these days. Bulgaria was also a big exporter of really cheap,
pretty nasty reds back then as well. And the Ontario Liquor board
imported one that was 95 cents a litre. It was so acidic that it
really needed the sugar shot from the 7-UP to be drinkable.

Some of the Aussie wines, including ones Kevin favors,
were incredibly acidic, and I could imagine using them
for such household tasks as as bathroom disinfection
    and rust removal.

I wonder if the USA imported wine, or vodka for that matter, from
behind the Iron Curtain in the late 60s? I do remember you blocked
    Cuban tobacco and rum.

US trade policies have never been wholly consistent,
and with regard to eastern Europe there was that delicate
balance between getting bargains and stimulating the evil
economies of totalitarian states. Most often, getting cheap
merchandise won out. Cuba was a special case, because of the
in-your-facedness of the situation. Democratic and Republican
administrations alike thought that it could be starved into
submission, and everyone thought that that cigar-totin'
clownish bugbear (less and less clownish by modern comparison,
see Venezuela, Italy, Great Britain, Brazil, etc.) would get
overthrown in short order. Wishful thinking. Anyhow, there were
substantial black markets for Cuban rum and cigars, especially
after Castro had the clever idea of sending boatloads of
criminals and misfits to Miami, probably throwing in a goodly
dose of secret agents or saboteurs).

there recipe, although admittedly pink enough.
