I'm not going to say that it's easy to avoid
escalation, lest I activate a jinx against
myself; let's just say that heretofore, the
problems have always been fairly easy to resolve.
And we've not had any major issues with them. I just have to remember
not to wear a couple of shirts of mine that have metallic threads thru
the screening machine. Wore one once and got called aside for extra
screening but we had enough time that we were in no danger of missing
    our flight.

Lilli got nailed going into New Zealand, so on the
way out just gave up and went through the manual line.
I just breezed through and laughed at her from the
outlet of the secondary line. We'll see what happens
going into Sydney without the priority card.

Each person has a balance. Mine is likely quite
different from yours or anyone else's, but one
can't really complain if things work.
Very true, even with married couples.
Even with identicals, of whom I've had some
opportunity to examine a few in detail.
Interesting; I've not had the opportunity.

I'm doubting there will be an actual end of the
world disaster in less than geologic time, despite
    people seeing signs.
I'm not going to get into that here--too close to forbidden topics.
Close to forbidden is okay; all you have to worry
about is the capriciousness of the moderator,
something that I don't have to pay much attention to.
But I want to stay on his good side. Can I mention that we visited the
Ark Encounter in KY earlier this month? Had a behind the scenes tour (previously arrainged) and lunch at Emzara's Kitchen, a somewhat international buffet.

You may mention that, especially if you focus on what
you ate rather than what you saw.

That's Southwest and convergent evolution. Someday
all the airlines will have similar practices with
    something to offend everyone.
And all offer plane crackers, pretzels, sort of shortbread cookies
    and > drinks?
In this month's Global Traveler magazine, there's an
active discussion in the letters to the editor mostly
    decrying Southwest's decision.
Can't make everybody happy all the time.

In this case the airline has to do a determination
of the damage done to the 1% vs. the annoyance of
the 99%. If the damage is hugely overriding, which
some claim it is, then the current course may be
    justified.

The day will probably come when I'm wheeling Lilli
down the airport corridors. The day will almost
surely come when I'm wheeling myself down the
    airport corridors.
Probably, at some point. But, then, if your mind is still strong enough,
you can look back at old passports and other memoribilia and remember
the travels you were able to do. Think about the "good old days" of
airline meals, higher weight limits for baggage, no TSA, etc. (G)

Back in those good old days, we used to complain
about the airline meals, plus I got 44 lb of baggage
allowance. Now, on United I get 210 lb baggage
allowance or 170 lb on other Star Alliance carriers.
TSA, well, when the trusted trveler thing works, I
get out in the same amount of time or less than
    back when.

    Picarones con Miel (Peruvian Doughnuts)
Interesting, but will let someone else have the fun of making them right
now. Still trying to get caught up from our travels.

Again, as I said to Edith, there is no expectation
that any of us is going to run right out and make
any particular recipe, though some would be easier
    than others.

    Chili Powder
    categories: spice
    yield: 1 batch

3 to 6 Tb pure ground chile such as New
    - Mexico, Anaheim, Ancho, Chimayo
    - or any combination of these; can use
    - Mulato or Pasilla too, if available
    Cayenne pepper to taste
    1 ts garlic powder
    2 ts oregano
2 ts cumin - more to taste

    Mix well.

    Hi Michael,

Win some, lose some. I've set off metal detectors a few times with
what's in my wrists and elbow but that's beyond my control. The
sensitivity factor on the detectors had been turned up high those times.

Don't remember that much of what I had; it was good but not
outstandingly so. From what was said, they forgot about having a food
venue at the place until shortly before it opened. Since you really need
to plan a day (maybe a bit more) to see the Ark and side attractions,
they put together the main food hall in about 6 week's time. Other,
small ones have opened up as well, maybe we'll try some of them on
    another visit.

IOW, TBD at this stage of the game.

True. Some I wouldn't want to make. Others, I might, until I read the ingredients list or the "work" factor. Then I figure it's something I
don't really want to make. If I want to taste it, I'll order it in a restaurant. (G)

    Chili Powder
    categories: spice
    yield: 1 batch

I've got various chili powders, both individual and blends, on the
shelf. Depending on the chili being made, I'll use all individual or one
blend, with a bit of a couple of individual powders added.
