on the 2th I head for Arizona and escape the dreaded
"S" word / even though the thermometer says 55F right now.

It's going to drop to 10 F here tonight!

I overheard someone saying they'd swapped their tires for
winter, I managed to not smile or anything. Heck, I don't own
    those types of tires.

My latest car has terrible tractions so I just spent a fortune on
super tough, extra deep treaded, studded winter tires.

I switched my tires last week and then we had one warm day and all
the snow melted away, so I'm driving studded tires on bare pavement
and I can't tell if they're worth the premium I paid or not.

    Title: Bloody Toms
    Categories: Spice, Alcohol, Chilies, Beverages
    Yield: 1 serving

    3 c V-8 vegetable juice
    1/8 ts Horseradish
    1/8 ts Celery salt
    1/4 ts Tabasco sauce
    1/8 ts Ground habanero pepper
    1/2 Shot nuoc mam
    1 Shot vodka

I mixed a drink for the playoffs last weekend. It was supposed to be
Bloody Marys but I ran out of Worcestershire. Remembering you said it
was tamarind and fish sauce, I used V-8, horseradish, celery salt,
Tabasco, ground habanero, nuoc mam and vodka. I called them Bloody
    Toms.

My forecast is for 28°F overnight then up to 53°F when the sun is up.

Running studded tires on pavement is illegal in my state. They eat away
at the asphalt and don't do concrete a world of good. Not to mention
that the brakes don't work so well with the tungsten studs sliding over
the pavement as opposed to rubber's co-efficient of friction.

And the big deal - hopefully the technology for anchoring the studs in
the rubber has improved since the 1960s when a friend was taking a road
trip and had a tungsten stud separate from the tire, blow through the
rear wheel well of his station wagon and continue out through the wind
screen - narrowly missing hitting his wife in the head.

    (Yikes, that's a long run-on sentence)

I've run chains on icy roads but never studs. Those things are about the
size of a 22 calibre bullet and, apparently, about as powerful if let
    loose from their tire.

Way back in the 70's, when I lived in Colorado, I saw some of those sandals made from old tires. Great sandals, made from knobby tires. I would have bought a pair except they didn't have any in my size. Would have been great for traction at certain times of the year, or loose sand on a beach I suppose.
The termination dust is creeping down the hills. It was readily apparent when I went out to Eagle River to get a new drivers license. When I rented a car in
Paris they got semi-concerned because the address on the license didn't match the billing address on the charge card, it wouldn't...I've moved. So I decided
to get that fixed, since I've got another rental car to pick up in Las Vegas on
the 3rd, and it would have been a repeat. Sometimes I get obstinate about things like that. Shortly after Connie died I tried to get her name taken off of one of the utility accounts, they told me I had to proide them with an "original" death certificate. I think she's still on the account.
