I was glad to get home after all that. Highlight of the week
after the picnic was being able to visit family, including
cousins of mine I don't see very often. We met for lunch at a
casino in Niagara Falls--their buffet is free to new members
of their "social club", reduced price for current members. We
    "joined" (probably will never use the membership again);
So did you have to pay anything to "join"...? Free meal is
quite nice... and you never know when you might have occasion
to meet your cousins there again... ;)

It didn't cost anything to join and any time we want to go there again
for the buffet, it will be at a reduced price. Not sure how much off
    but some beats none. (G)

For sure... guess it's a bit of a gimmick to get you to try, and then to return... expanding their clientele from just the casino patrons who
might get it free as an inducement to gamble.... :)

It was fun to go to the Falls again also. Stopped in a souvenir
shop for a thimble and walking stick shield (for Steve) and went
up front to pay for them.

You got your thimble from the Falls, then... :) Where does the walking
    stick shield attach...?

    Heard a rustling beside/below
us and saw a squirrel had come in, jumped into a box of Reese's peanut butter cups. He snagged one package, jumped down and under the counter, couple of minutes later ran out into the entryway with a pb cup in his mouth. Wonder how often he's pulled that off.

I'd guess more than once... ;) And I'd also guess the shopkeeper is on
    to his antics... ;)

the buffet was spread over several stations (Asian,
Mediterranian, American, desserts and maybe one other) with a
    fair spread at each. Enough to well fill us up;
    Sounds quite impressive... ;)

If you went away hungry, it was your own fault. (G)

    I guess.... ;)

we walked down to the American side of the falls afterward. For
supper that night Steve and I split a one entree, no rice mall
Chinese chicken thing and got an ice cream each. Light, but
after the buffet, we didn't need a lot of supper.
I might not even have needed any supper, just a snack... :)

Tht's basically what we had. I couldn't go from end of lunch to
breakfast without having something more to keep the b/g at a good
    level.

    Oh, ok... and true... :)

Very true. Seems there's always something that needs money. The Wall

Some people would be tempted to drop a few coins in the slot,
pull the lever a few times.......but it's a waste of money
    for me.
I'd not be tempted, either... :)
There's other things to spend money on--ice cream, chocolate,
    fabric...........(G)
    For starters.... ;)

Very true. Seems there's always something that needs money. The Wall
That Heals, a 3/4 scale Viet Nam war memorial is in WF this week end.
Cost to see it is free but they do accept donations to cover the cost
of moving it around the country, maintaining the exhibits, etc. Yes, we went to see it, today.

I think that was here in Rochester for a while, some time ago... I had
meant to go see it, but never did...

Kinda what I was thinking... ;)
I knew they liked nuts but didn't know they liked pb. (G)
It would make sense.... after all one sets traps for other
    rodents with pb.... :)
True, but the the chocolate part may not be good for them.
Don't know if it has the same effect on rodents as it can for
    dogs and cats.
Apparently not.... we've had mice eat our stock of chocolate,
and apparently suffer no ill effects.... we finally found
containers to protect our chocolate (kisses, candy bars, etc)
from the rodents... and then the cats made short work of the
mice when they came to live with us.... :)

Sam, our crazy cocker spaniel never seemed to suffer the major ill
effects of chocolate. He'd be lethargic for a while, then turn into
hyper dog for a few hours.

Taco, our psycho-kitty, found a stash of chocolate and got into it (this
before we'd moved everything to containers... she just got more hyper...
and after the first time, we had to keep her from searching it out,
    seems she got addicted... ;)

She thought they were secure in her closet--but not from Sam.

Next up is a baby quilt for a baby due around Christmas. AFAIK,
the next one due is in March, another quilt project. Of course
other sewing will be done as well.
Are you doing projects for Christmas this year....?
Don't know; we are sending a box of goodies from Southern
Supreme but haven't thought of anything beyond that.
Getting into prime time for making things for Christmas... ;)
Or deciding that they won't be happening this year... (G)

Haven't really discussed it this year; other things have taken
    priority.

True... might be a default decision not to try any projects this
year, from the sounds of it... ;)

Probably so, but we've done last minute things other years.......

As I understand it, this version is quite recent, maybe 2-3
years old. WF was its only stop in NC this year, sponsored by
    the Purple Heart Foundation.
Ah... then that wouldn't have been the one that was here....
If it ever comes back, try to see it--it's quite impressive. The
truck that carries it is also quite an information center.
I intend to... we shall see...

Might be able to go on line and find a schedule of where it will be
going. I don't know if it travels year round or only certain months or what (IIRC, we saw it in the summer in GA).

I'd guess that they'd want to set it up places where people would be
encouraged to visit the outdoor site... but it still could probably
travel year-round, if it went to "sunny spots" over the winter... ;)

Does the Wall list all the Viet Nam casualties...?
    All known ones.
I've always been curious about some friends that I totally lost
track of, that might ended up in Nam....

Another thing you could probably find out at the web site.

If I were more comfortable using websites, anyway.... ;0

She got into milk chocolate.... don't think she ever had any
    dark...
Sam was an equal opportunity chocolate eater. He liked both semi
sweet chocolate chips and Hershey's Kisses.
And you let him have them regularly....?
No, we never let him have them. He sought them out on his own,
if we were out of the house.
And you didn't have them stashed well enough to deter him....

Once it was cookies, cooling on the table. I'd told Rachel to put them away before we went out; she was sure Sam wouldn't be able to get to
them. Came back and found he had managed to find a way so....

    Where there's a will, there's a way.... ;) Never underestimate a
determined canine (or feline, for that matter).... ;) Leave it out,
it's fair game... have to tuck it away... :)

As far as we know, she only actually consumed it that once....
but that was plenty for us... we did, though, catch her looking
for more in the same area she found the first batch....
Good thing you moved them into a more secure location. (G)
I think the stuff she found was left over from an Easter
'basket' someone had given us, not part of the general stash...
    forgotten, in other words.... ;)
OK, understood why it wasn't "secured". Deborah had made some
"rosebuds" with Kisses, red cellophane and floral wire for a
choir Valentine's Day fundraiser--Sam found them and devoured
all of the chocolate he could get into.
Some things you just don't think of securing until the cat or
dog finds them and demolishes them.... ;0

She thought they were secure in her closet--but not from Sam.

Could he open a closed door to her closet....?

Could be, or just works on doing updates before heading out again in the spring. Probably lots of data to go thru yet from that era.

Deborah thought she had it tucked away securely enough but..... Her
closet had a sliding door; I guess she left it open just wide enough for
Sam to get his nose into it, and from there, into the chocolate.

A sliding door, yes, very easily.

Haven't really discussed it. Found out there's another late spring baby
coming to a church family--at the shower, the mom confirmed it. They
have 2 girls already. The shower was at one of the local Mexican
restaurants, nice change of location. I had a steak fajita taco
salad--it was good. Anyway, that's 3 more quilts to make, good thing I
bought more flannel the other day. (G)
