Driving the red Beemer and not getting caught
speaks to her skill or her glamorousness or both.
Red cars are supposed to improve your odds ... of being pulled over.
No one thinks my car will go fast enough to bother checking it!

    Putt ... putt ... putt.

I've always preferred fat to starch.
Depends on what I'm doing; you don't want to get oil stains out
    of
    fabric.
I'm forever getting oil stains out of fabric.
Eating Italian food does that to you.
    One would imagine.

Especially as I love fat and will greedily
shove oily pasta down my gullet. One way to
starve me would be to serve me fat-free pasta.

    (railroad lanterns)
It is safe to say that I have never used one.
Your dad didn't keep them around and use them when the power went
    out.
    1. No. 2. The power didn't go out often.
Around here it went out for a few hours to a few days a few times a
year. Trees and power lines don't mix well.

That's because your construction people were incompetent
and/or corrupt, as we've been discussing. Out here in
Little Rhody, we were talking about the recent good
reliability of the electric service; I attributed this
to the large influx of women into public service and
politics, plus the wish of the power company to appear
to keep its nose clean, so it can further its own
    wind power and other agendas.

That's almost Rhode Island, which may
    explain something.
Possibly; I don't know any Rhodie houses got hit too.
    The construction corruption certainly did.
That doesn't surprise me. Most states have some problem with it,
unless they don't have building codes to violate.

So I had dinner with a member of the planning board and
also the mother of one of that board's pet experts. The
corruption and incompetency stories kept people in
    stitches all evening.

    We try harder.
    But the Rhodies succeed more.
They can't attract a major league sports team either.
Why bother when Fenway Park is an hour by train.
True ... and they have usable train service.

You do as well, but only from the coastal corridor.

Marinated Heirloom Tomato Caprese Avocado Salad
Two of my less favorite items in one bite - raw tomato and avocado.
It was listed as a Rhode Island recipe, so it's fitting.

The author of that recipe was a Brown student.

    Kahlua pork ribs-in the crock
categories: main, starter, crock, fake Hawaiian
    servings: 4 to 12

    2 racks pork spare ribs
    rub seasoning
    1 lg onion sliced
1 hd garlic, separated and peeled
    1/2 c Kahlua Liquor
1/2 c honey chipotle or other bbq sauce
    1/2 c soy sauce
1/2 c island teriaki or "Soy Vey"

    Directions

Score the back membrane with a sharp knife or pull off.
Cut rib racks in half, rub all over with your favorite
    seasoning mix, set aside.

Place the onions and garlic into a slow cooker.
arrange the ribs on top of onions & garlic. Pour the
Kahlua, BBQ sauce, soy sauce and Soy Vey over.

cover and cook on high for 4 to 6 hr or 8 to 10 hr on
low, until meat is starting to fall off the bones.
Remove ribs, cover with foil to keep warm and set
aside. Strain solids from the remaining sauce (or
just puree it all together) and glaze the ribs.

I used to have one named Putt. For good reason.

I'm forever getting oil stains out of fabric.

I can eat it that way, but it almost has to be whole wheat. Then it
    has some taste.

In the old days they couldn't cut the trees back either. One massive state-wide outage too many put paid to that. It's been a while since
    a real outage.

    The construction corruption certainly did.

That's good for dinner, and lousy for anyone living with the
    consequences.
