I do not normally do food reviews, but this time we tried a product that
was so bad (to us) that I decided to warn folks here.
I encourage, even urge, those who have notably good
or bad product experiences to report these for the
benefit of all.
The product is a variety of Utz potato chips. Recently they have been
coming out with all sorts of different flavors, some of which stick
around and others of which disappear. This one is called spicy buffalo
dip flavored potato chips. Gail had one chip and gave the rest of the
Pity - I've always had good experiences with those
products. The chips were so superior that my friend
Judy and I used to trek from Massachusetts down to
central Pennsylvania to pick up a carton; that was in
the old days when you could get Coors only within a
few hours of the Coors factory and could get Utz only
within an hour or two of the Utz factory. Now there's
national distribution, but I find that the offerings
are still mostly as good as in the olden times. If
you hadn't posted this review, and if I'd seen a bag
in the store, chances are I'd have tried it.
bag to me. I barely detect any of what I might expect in a buffalo
wings type of flavor. What I get is a very strong vinegar (which is why
Gail tossed them after one chip). I would describe it as being take
your favorite buffalo wings hot sauce (ours is Crystals) and then dilute
it four to one with vinegar. There is heat, but no flavor other than
the vinegar.
That's kind of gross. I will here put in a balancing
encomium for two other Utz products, both rather simple
and no-frills. The sweet potato chips are excellent,
similar in taste and texture to Terra sweet potato
chips, only better, and Grandma Utz's kettle cooked
chips are among the best I've ever had (I've mentioned
them on the echo before). Grandma Utz is a not-so-srcret
code for "cooked in lard."
Don't try these at home :-}}
Or elsewhere, apparently. Thanks for the warning.
