From MICHAEL LOO@1:123/140 to NANCY BACKUS on Thursday, August 09, 2018 06:53:18
That seems reasonable, especially if there were
breakfast foods available to those who needed
them Monday. In any case those who can afford
more can contribute more to the grocery kitty.
I'm sure there will be... along with picnic leftovers for those of us
that don't do breakfast usually... ;)

I should have added "for 'em as eats 'em."

Edited to add: Rosemary picked me up the other day
at 9 and hadn't eaten the day before, so we went
on an emergency trip to Slice of Heaven. I was
also sort of undernourished, but I don't generally
want to eat breakfast, especially at a place with
a name like that. I got the most foodlike thing
available, a Denver omelet, which came with an
impossible quantity of fatty bacon (good) and a
flabby semitoasted English (not so good). With this
I got an iced decaf with cream and sugar. Now I
recall why I so loved coffee as a toddler - it's
the essence of infantile deliciousness taken this
way, and I suspect our national habit of swilling
down hot black bitter liquid harks back to that
elemental pleasure but in macho adult form.

The omelet was pretty tasty, but I wouldn't make a
habit of it - two eggs, a blob of cheese, I believe
four slices of undercooked bacon, ample chopped onion,
and a modest amount of chopped bell pepper. The
English was pale and pasty, sort of like the English.

    Beds available:
Just don't put a massive snorer in the futon. As
far as I go, a twin is fine - on many occasions in
my misspent youth I slept two to a cot, and I'm
    only 10-20 lb more now.
I was thinking maybe the futon would work for xxCarol if she makes it...

Or whomever; my main request is relatively few
    loud noises.

Do the Fords do well in a waterbed? If not,
as I said, the Hampton and Homewood in Victor
are just dying to get my points.
Haven't specifically checked with them on that, but I did send this same posting to them in email, so presumably they may have seen that... ;)
Dunno if they'd want to stay in Victor over going home...

What's the difference in distance? I figure
whatever's easiest for them and would be willing
to help using hotel points if necessary.

Hafflys plan to use their camper, which they can hook up to water and electric there in the yard...
There's also at least a couch or two... ;)
I could be moved to a couch if there's not
    too much cat hair.
Shouldn't be... and we can keep that in mind... :)

Just curious, exactly what is the pet situation?

Ah, poop - at that time I'll be engaged in a
    possibly acrimonious and certainly emotional
    meeting in Boston.
How enjoyable... At least you'll get another chance at Fu's when you
    come for a visit... :)

The chair of this one is the guy whose work I
played subbing for Burt Fine a bunch of years
ago. He took over the spot from Nicholas during
his later incapacity, offering a change in
direction to the "right," if you will.

    Friday, September 7
general shopping for things needed for the cooking day,
    sightseeing as desired
I've been wondering if there would be any interest in visiting the
Ganondagon site... it's not far from Lydia's...

Possibly - I've seen enough reenactments and
reconstructions so would not be a strong
proponent, but if people thought it was
interesting, certainly it would tie in neatly
with the conversation we've been having.

evening dinner at restaurant, TBD... Lots of choices here....
I'd be okay with pretty much anything but might
put in a good word for the Malay place. Or a steak.
One of the choices I was considering was Abyssinia, the Ethiopian restaurant... :) And the Malay place was another consideration... I
don't know of any good steakhouses (non-chain) locally... there may well
be, but none on our usuals list...

I'm okay with Ethiopian places but am not so
enthusiastic about their tendency to use
injera as the heavy lifter of the meal. Also,
I would request to be put at the spicy table.

    Sunday, Sept 9
This will be a church dinner Sunday at our church, so I'm
proposing we make a salad, main dish and dessert to bring to it,
and join in.. The morning service is at 11AM, and the dinner
    generally starts around 1PM...
afternoon/ More visiting, etc; leftovers, stuff we didn't get to...
    evening
That would be mighty social of us, but would
there be enough elbow room for the church cook
people and the echo people? Also, would we sit
in our own segregated table or be spread around
    with the congregation?
The plan would be to make our offerings on Saturday along with the other picnic things and just bring them in on Sunday... As to seating, that
could be done however it seems appropriate at the time... :) I did
check with Carol, she's fine with it... she may be the one in charge of
it (the team takes turns), and if so, it'll be a brunch, and she'd like
us to bring a breakfast casserole...

Given how important church is to your Sunday,
I could go along with that but would make another
special request, that I be asked to attend only
    one service.

    Something along these lines?

I figured that was what was behind, hence my answer... ;)

Perhaps... I do miss my coffee.... never had it as a child, though, my
parents didn't believe in giving kids coffee....

The omelet was pretty tasty, but I wouldn't make a

Not too bad, you could have done worse... ;)

I'm with you on that... and hopefully (should be, anyway) no problem in granting that... ;)

Victor is probably at least a third of the way home for them, possibly
more... I talked to Burt a day or so ago, and they'd be fine with using
the waterbed if they decided to stay over instead of running home...
Neither has used a waterbed before, but they're game to try it... this
one has the baffles and all, so it isn't nearly so in your face
waterbed-y as, say, ours is... ;) Ours is an original rock-and-roller
    type... ;)

There's also at least a couch or two... ;)
I could be moved to a couch if there's not
    too much cat hair.
Shouldn't be... and we can keep that in mind... :)
Just curious, exactly what is the pet situation?

Just one elderly cat. Who generally spends a great deal of his time
outdoors, and isn't particularly interested in spending time with
    strange people... :)

Ah, poop - at that time I'll be engaged in a
    possibly acrimonious and certainly emotional

My condolences... (and btw, the enjoyable above was totally facetious,
in case you didn't catch that...)

Yup, that's a good example.... Or the casserole thing that Gail made for breakfast at one of the picnics at their house, that had fruit in it...
Carol mentioned either egg or potato casseroles.... There's a lot of
    latitude there... :)
