Probably pretty much. The market restaurant fries it Calabash
style--a light, almost batter coating, the Mayflower does a
heavy breading. I prefer the former.
I might prefer the former, too... :)
Probably so; the breading doesn't really do anything positive
for the shrimp.
And potentially totally covering up the taste of the shrimp...
We tend to not like to do anything with shrimp other than a simple preparation, e.g. steaming with onions and a bit of Old Bay.
Eating out, we will get steamed shrimp (appetizer?) but not things
like kung pao shrimp or shrimp curry which (to us) totally cover up
the taste of the shrimp.
Actually, I'd say the same for most seafoods with the
exception of fried fish and chips.
This dish might be good for some, but I think the shrimp would be
lost.

We do buy the breaded butterfly shrimp on occasion... the cats particularly like the tails as a treat while we eat the rest... More
generally, I'll get the frozen shrimp and add a handful of them to
congee (asian rice/ginger soup), or cook them up with garlic butter
and a bit of shredded cheese for scampi...

You don't eat the tails??? Some would say that is the best part.

We now always buy the wild caught gulf shrimp from Wegmans. They are
also our source for salmon.
