But back in Ottawa in the 70s it was my go to
    big date place.

Our "big date meal" is a three+ pound lobster from Wegman's, steamed by
them, and brought home to eat while still hot.

Our "cheap date meal" is a 1/4 pound all beef hotdog from Costco, $1.50.

That is correct. I usually get a churro as well, sort of a Mexican
twisted fried dough with cinnamon & sugar coating on it. Total price
for the two of us, including beverage, is $4 plus tax. They have other
things. I once tried some sort of chicken concoction but it was not
worth the money. I see a lot of pizza slices and also frozen desserts
(sort of a berry smoothie) -- but we stick with the hot dogs. We do buy
their pizza in the grocery area to take home for later cooking.

    Title: Pizza Quiche
    Categories: Main dish, Casserole, Sthrn/livng
    Yield: 6 servings

    6 sl Bacon
    1 Pie shell, 9"; unbaked
    2/3 c Cheese; Swiss; shredded,
    -divided
    1 tb Onion, minced
    3 Eggs
    2 tb Flour, all-purpose
    1 c Milk
    8 oz Tomato sauce; divided
    1/2 ts Salt
    1/4 ts Basil
    1/4 ts Oregano
    Parsley

Cook bacon until crips in skillet; then drain and crumble it.
Meanwhile, bake pastry shell at 400 degrees for 5 minutes; remove
    from oven. Cover bottom of pastry shell evenly with 1/3 cup cheese;
sprinkle on bacon, onion, and remaining 1/3 cup cheese.

Beat eggs and flour until smooth; blend in milk, 1/2 cup tomato sauce
with cheese, salt, basil, and oregano. Pour into pie shell. Bake at
400 degrees for 15 minutes; reduce oven to 325 degrees and continue
baking 25 to 30 minutes or until knife inserted near center comes out
clean. Using a spoon, drizzle remaining tomato sauce in spoke design
over top of pie; let stand 10 minutes before cutting into wedges.
    Garnish with parsley.

We don't have a big date place since Pierre's flagship L'Heritage
closed, so yeah, we have big date meals at home now too. They
usually revolve around a large piece of prime red meat and an extra
    good bottle of red wine.

I do as well. I don't eat hot dogs often, but when I do I get a $1.50 one
    from costco.

We do buy their pizza in the grocery area to take home for later

I've heard it's good, but with my wife being celiac I tend to make the
pizza myself. The hot dog is for me when she's at work. <Laugh>
