Not every place is totally free of the old East.
I mentioned Chemnitz as one of the dreariest
places I've ever seen (not counting real slums).
True, communist countries don't have a monopoly on drearyness.

Though this Eastern Bloc brand of dreary is pretty
    distinctive.

Mine aren't that bad yet. Sometimes fuzzy but overall, working.
Most people make their eyes work, sort of.
One way or another, got a yearly check up with the retinal specialist
    next month.

He was just the one that happened to be picked. (G)
Well, he was a massive imperialist, a homosexual,
and might have liked Wagner if Wagner had been
    born during his lifetime.
Not the kind of guy I'd like to befriend tho.
Not my first choice, but a lot of people make
allowances based on power and wealth.
A case of politics and strange bed fellows?

    A case, I'd suspect, of short-term economic
self-interest taking precedence over all else.

That long, eh. So are you of the school that
says the team was named after the locals'
adeptness at dodging traffic or at dodging
    trolley fares?
TBH, I have no thoughts one way or the other on it.

Having not the greatest opinion of Brooklyn, I do.

    Title: Moist Rhubarb Coffeecake
That looks good. OTOH, I tried a strawberry-rhubarb ice cream plast
night, not very strong on either flavor, probably a bit more of the strawberry came out. Altho I like strawberry-rhubarb, I would not get it
    as ice cream again.

For me, I kind of like strawberry and am okay
with rhubarb, but together, not so much. Ice
    cream, doubtful. Sorbet maybe.

    Servings: 8

    2 Carrot
    1 Parsley root
    2 Celery stalks
    2 Onions, sliced
    4 c Salted water
    1 lb Mushrooms, sliced
    1 c Water
    1 Salt and pepper
    2 tb Instant flour
    1/4 c Cold water
    1/2 c Sour cream
    1 tb Dill leaves
    1 lb Rhubarb finely chopped
    1 Noodles, fine macaroni

Cook the carrots, parsley, celery and 1 onion in 4 cups salted water
for 20 minutes. Strain. Cook the mushrooms and second onion in 1 cup
water for 10 minutes. Add salt and pepper. Combine with vegetable
broth, add the flour mixed with 1/4 cup cold water. Boil. Remove
from heat. Add sour cream, dill and parsley. Add noodles, fine
macaroni. M's note: what were they thinking? The dill and rhubarb
    appear to be stray ingredients.

    Quite, and quite dreary.

    Appears to be so.

    Probably the traffic?

I'd rather have the combo in jam, pie, tart, etc. Ice cream, no, not
    really.
