Yes, but it was how their mind worked. Dad was a child of the
Depression when it was a "buy only what could be afforded at the time" mind set.

I think what Daddy took from the Depression was to save to get
something that would be worth it in the long run... Mommy just learned
    to make do... ;)

I came along after that -- but both of my parents lived through it (and
were married in 1933 before it was really over). In addition to the frugalness, I think that they had an ingrained adversion to debt.

Gail and I came out of our first years of marriage living with low
budgets and learned a fair amount of frugal behavior that still sticks
with us today to some degree.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.05

    Categories: Potato
    Yield: 4 Servings

    4 md Potatoes
    3 Rashers Lean Bacon
1/2 c Natural Yoghurt or Light

    1 Red Capsicum, finely
    Chopped
    1 c Cheese, grated
    1 c Mushrooms, roughly chopped

This is a quick and easy alternative to stuffed potatoes. Try the

suggested and then experiment with your own toppings.

Wash and scrub the potatoes. Pierce and bake in microwave on High for
10-12 minutes or until softened. Stand 4 minutes. Place the bacon
between paper towels and microwave on High for 2-3 minutes. Chop
    roughly. Slice the potatoes
and place in a flan or quiche dish, pour over the yoghurt and top
    with all the
other ingredients. Microwave on High for 4 minutes. Serves 4.

Source: Unknown. I got it off my MIL. I think she may have got it out
    of a WW
    book.

Daddy was born 1921, Mommy 1929.... They grew up frugal, and careful with debt.... I grew up in a family that didn't have much, but it was just a
way of life, and I never felt the pinch, really...

Gail and I came out of our first years of marriage living with low
budgets and learned a fair amount of frugal behavior that still sticks with us today to some degree.

Richard and I started out with very little, and when things eased up
some, never got into a real spending habit... Frugality becomes second nature... and then one has something to fall back on when hard times
come again, or to lend/give to someone less fortunate... :)
