Swisher wanted to go to Costco so he could
check out a new mattress, because his old
one is hurting him. Not like the lumpy
rollaway that he borrowed from the condo
office for me, but perhaps bad enough
that he's eating Tylenol the way I eat
    Cheetos.

We got to Mountain View at 9:40, noping the
place would be opened up at least for the
VIPs (I am an Executive member) but were
greeted by an empty parking lot. So off
to the Red Apple down the street. I remember
it as a little smelly hole in the wall, but
it's grown up into something rather like a
smallish H-Mart with similar stock and -
oddly for Anchorage - similar prices. New
    Sagaya, the upper-class competition, runs
25-30% more for the same food or of similar
    quality.

We picked up some veggies and snacks and
looked at the meat, which didn't seem either
extra good or extra cheap, so we figured to
come back if there was nothing that called
    out to us at Costco.

Backtracked shortly after 10 and found the
parking lot was chockablock - we got a spot
only because someone was already leaving.

The wine store is in a separate area out
front, perhaps for impulse purchases; it's
separate the way many of them are out east,
probably to comply with licensing laws, but it
is staffed by Costco people. I decided to be
a good house guest and got Swisher a bottle
of the house New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc and
a Sancerre to compare. He's on a SB kick, and
I bit my tongue and didn't say that the only
good Sauvignon Blanc is a dead Sauvignon Blanc.
Anticipating the arrival of Lilli in a few
days, I also picked up a Rodney Strong Merlot
and Cline Ancient Vines Zin, all at lower 48
prices. The selection was pretty much the same
as the ones in California, minus the top end.

Swisher wanted to get a pork butt to play
with, but they were offering only giants, and
in 2-packs at that. Instead, for twice the
cost, I snagged a flat of pretty good-looking
New Yorks at the same 9.99 as down in America,
    as Swisher says.

We went down to the deli department to see
if my friend Chris was there; unfortunately,
    he was off this day.
