I've been known to use rice krispies as a filler. Works out rather
well.
Along similar lines I have occasionally used cooked rice along with
soy sauce, five spice powder and ginger in a not-really-Chinese
meatloaf and crushed cornflakes in a pork based meatloaf.

Title: Jess's Fried Green Tomatoes
Categories: Native, Vegetables
Yield: 4 servings
4 lg Green tomatoes
1 ts Salt
pn Black pepper
2 c Coarse ground yellow
Cornmeal
Lard or vegetable
Shortening
Slice the tomatoes to about half an inch and sprinkle with the salt.
Let them sit for 10 or 15 minutes. Blot dry with paper towels, then
sprinkle with pepper.
Dip the slices into cornmeal and heat your lard or oil in a large
skillet, then fry the slices until both sides are brown.
