We did our grocery shopping weekly then. When he was downsized from
that one (nobody was buying cabin cruisers during the recession of 79),
he found a job that paid every other week so we adjusted our grocery buying habits accordingly. So, it was not much of an adjustment to go
from every other week to once a month--quantities of things increased
some but part of that was that the girls were growing older (and
consuming more) as well.

When we lived in England in the early 70's, we observed that some of
the Brits when shopping every day. Made it almost a full time job,
especially since one might have to go to multiple stores to get all of
the things you wanted (e.g. butcher, baker, produce, fruits might all
be different stores).
