Daylight, nighttime, wouldn't have made all that much
difference to me, though we're all of an age where
daylife is more relevant than nightlife.
Pretty much so around here too. We do have meetings at night for some of
the organisations we belong to but don't usually go out otherwise.

I'm hardlu surprised. Real nightlife is for the young
and single. I don't have the stamina or the liver for
it, haven't for a long time.

seen that White St. looks more late 50s/early 60s.
So even that's less than worth the zoning board losing
sleep over. In any case, how much I actually saw would
be hardly worth that effort; the others might have
    enjoyed it.
That part of town still has character--and characters. (G)

For character, I don't think of the middle of North
Carolina. For characters, well, I gave away my can
    of pepper spray years ago.

We can try to remember it.
We have the de facto archivist who can remind
    you when the time comes.
    Whenever that might be.

We're counting on hanging around this planet for a
    few more years at least.

past a 50 Best Hot Dogs one. For me, once you get beyond
plump, snappy casing, enough garlic, and not too much salt,
the rest is pretty irrelevant. I can do without that other
stuff, ketchup, mustard, onions, or chili, or dill pickle,
    neon relish, and celery salt.
We're not much into hot dogs either, just thought since we were
discussing them, tho, I'd note that the owner of Snoopy's passed away.
BTW, the owner of one of the Italian places in WF passed away several

    These things happen, I'm told.

years ago but his widow kept it going for about 5 years. She sold it
last year and the place is being transformed into a brew pub. It's in
the older part of town but now, no longer a place for us to visit.

That stands to reason, and you can hardly blame a widow
    for cashing out eventually.

Pnce in a while I've received coffeehouse cards in some
kind of promotion or other, but I've always given them
away. Once or twice one of the fancy drinks has caught
my eye, but I've always resisted.
We've only had the one Starbucks card, courtesy of our older daughter.
BTW, I saw a Starbucks building yesterday (part of a mini strip mall of "eateries") in the newer part of town. Same area as the MOD pizza place
    we've never tried.

I've not been thrilled by the MOD pizza menu, and the
gimmick is what all pizza parlors should be doing all
the time (cooking the pies to order). The other thing
is that the nutrition values are listed by the quarter
cup, which is misleading, I'm guessing intentionally,
or else the add-on portions are mighty skimpy. Similarly
    with the northeast competition, Oath.

As some of us would say, indeed; but think how great
shape your legs would have been in.
Steve's legs were in better shape than mine--he'd just retired from the
Army and walked to school just about every day from where we lived. It
was easier than trying to find parking.

Do you guys take walks in the neighborhood? It didn't
look inspiringly fascinating, but exercise is exercise.

    Title: Rice Pudding
    Categories: Desserts, Rice
    Servings: 8

    2 c Milk
    1/2 c Uncooked carolina rice
    1/4 ts Salt
    3 Egg yolks
    3 tb Sugar
    3/4 c Heavy cream

Old fashioned rice pudding. This recipe was a favorite even before
Carolina Rice printed it on their box in the early 1940's. It's still
    the
homey familiar dessert everyone loves. Bring milk to a boil, stir in rice
and salt. Cook over hot water until milk is absorbed, about 30 minutes.
Beat egg yolks with sugar and cream. Combine with rice mixture. Add
    raisins
if desired. Pour into baking dish. Bake in a pre-heated 350 degree oven
for 15 minutes, until top browns. From ~ Best Recipes From the Backs of
Boxes, Bottles, Cans and Jars by Ceil Dyer Personal note - about 1/2 tsp
vanilla combined with egg yolks and cream is very good.
