    I've not stayed there
Although you've eaten there once: for the snow castle wedding's
    redneck reception.

Yep, I remembered that. I bought the wine for the head table
(and for us). The food was not at all bad, and the occasion
    was fun.

where I've stayed in your city would be rated four stars for
    the cuisine and the staff.
    High praise! [g]

Indigenous fare at an affordable price, accompanied
by the best alcohol selection in the territory.

Tomorrow is the beginning of Diwali, the Festival of Lights
I celebrated Diwali, sort of, mostly by avoiding
the most Hinduized parts of town
We didn't actually do anything this year. We were close friends for
a while with four South Asian families of various persuasions and
origins but they have all retired and moved away.

Too bad, though retirement should not be a hindrance.
You could make an effort (I know, I so seldom do also).

Indian to me is a budget choice the same way Chinese is to most Americans.
That is certainly the commonest style encountered but just like most country's cuisines the food can also be quite elaborate and costly

Oh, for sure, and I've eaten at restaurants such as
Rangoli in London with greater hurt to my wallet than
    to my heat sensors.

as well. Vij's in Vancouver is internationally known, famous for
sourcing local wild caught seafood and organic meat from small
producers, and having an extensive wine cellar and craft beer list.
Vij trained as a chef in Europe and is certified sommelier, cookbook
    author and TV personality.

Speaking of Rangoli (no current relation as far as I
    can tell).

    Title: Barfi

A heavy dish, as they said, but worthwhile.

    Friend of yours?

... When I was a kid, Indian restaurants were only found in India.

Our parents might have been able to say that.
