The thing that really gave me an insight to the oblivious nature of the dullards attending the exposition was how, several times per day, one
of the fine examples of our education system would march past the very prominent sign on each door stating "NO EXHIBITS" and "NO PUBLIC REST ROOMS" to ask in strident tones "Whurz th butter cow?" or "Any $#!+
    houses in here?".

Well, you were doing government work, right? :D

    Later,

Not at that time. I was on the payroll and ready to work - but there
was bugger-all to do for productive work or even tom-foolery.

Of course this was pre-personal computers -- so any card (or other
games) including solitaire required and actual deck of cards or game
    board.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

    Title: State Fair Chilli
Categories: Beef, Vegetables, Herbs, Chilies, Beans
    Yield: 8 servings

    1/4 c Canola oil
1 md Yellow onion; fine chopped
    1 Rib celery; fine chopped
    2 lb Ground beef
    1/4 c Chilli spice mix
    2 tb Tomato paste
    2 tb Paprika
1 1/2 ts Salt; more to taste
    6 cl Garlic; fine chopped
56 oz (2 cans) whole peeled
    - tomatoes, crushed by hand
    30 oz (2 cans) kidney beans;
    - drained
    Fresh ground black pepper

Heat oil in a 6 qt. saucepan over medium-high heat. Add
onion and celery, and cook until soft, about 6 minutes.
Add beef, and cook, stirring, until browned, about 25
minutes. Add chilli spice, tomato paste, paprika, salt,
and garlic, and cook, stirring, until browned, about 2
minutes. Add tomatoes, and bring to a boil; reduce heat
to medium-low and cook, stirring often, for 1 hour. Add
beans, and cook, until thickened, about 30 minutes.

Season chilli with salt and pepper.

UDD NOTES: This is *not* a good chilli. No cumin, too
many tomatoes, wrong beans for chilli. And celery? Are
you kidding me? Celery has NO place in chilli. And what's
with the canola oil? Why not suet, f' crysakes. It's no
wonder that this is claimed to be a Minnesota State
Fair staple. Those Norwegian Bachelor Farmers (copy-
right Garrison Kiellor/Prairie Home Companion) are so
glad to get away from lutefisk and turnips that they
    will eat anything.
