You're living in another century, and that guess is off by
an order of magnitude - the average house in San Francisco
    goes for $1299000!
Can't say I've checked real estate prices out there recently.

Yeah, I had to look it up myself after Lilli told me about
how much her son's place is worth (can you say instant
millionaire? I thought you could). Your information would
have been current in the last century.

in San Fran that is going for $39M, 12000000 more than
the 9700 sf William and Vanessa Getty mansion sold for
earlier this year - tinyurl.com/gettysf tells details.
Yeep. That makes Boston look cheap.

It makes New York City seem cheap.

After my father's death I was put in charge of some money,
and my brother claimed that he could get a much better rate
than I was getting; I admit my plan was extremely
conservative and also conservational (relatively green) and
also that it did slightly worse than the then expansionary
market, though it ended up pretty average. His plan would
have made the assets go nearly in half.
Maybe for once he had it right?

I don't know, unless there's a good reason for it, losing
    that percentage would be problematic.

felt (feels) the same way. Late bloomers in this case.
    Interesting, but I won't ask!
She'd never had time to settle down before and he was a religious
    worker and a total nerd.
    Snot in pocket.
It washes out, and besides, it's better than snot
    in soup.
Or snot in someone else's soup. Or someone else's in yours.

Did you see the recipe that accompanied?

moments I feel like rooting for). I wonder what our own
methane production is - and how much it would increase if we
    all turned into vegetarians.
If we all started eating cruciferous veggies in quantity we could
probably power the entire country on methane.

We could probably already power a lot of the country on
methane, if collecting it were easier.

    Masak bawang
    Cat: Javanese, main, vegan
    serves: 2 to 3

    3 cloves garlic, sliced
    1 1/2 c bean sprouts
    3 stalks celery
    1/3 hd cabbage, roughly chopped
    2 carrots, sliced
    1 tomato, chopped
    2 1/2 c water
2 ts sugar (or to taste)
    1 1/2 ts salt
    1 ts pepper

Sop's cousin. There's something very comforting about
this dish - I always have it at Warung Seniman when I'm
feeling a bit under the weather. It doesn't look like
anything special when you read the list of ingredients,
    but somehow it is.

Stir-fry garlic in a little oil. Add vegetables and
stir for a few minutes. Add water and sugar, salt,
and pepper Simmer about 10 min.

To eat, scoop out the vegetables onto a bed of rice.
Serve with a lot of sambal tomat, petai (stink bean),
and tahu-tempe goreng (fried tofu/tempeh) or goreng
    telur (spiced eggs).

American note: Chinese celery and savoy cabbage give
    the best flavor.
