Dale's famous pastrami came out, and it was as expected. This
piece had a nice cap, which Nancy, Mark Lewis, and I feasted
on, while it seems the others could eat no fat. Anyway, betwixt
the seven of us we licked the platter clean. Mustards and breads accompanied. I paid these no heed, nor did I taste the Vlasic
Farmer's Garden pickles that went with, smelling the strong
dilliness, of which I can tolerate only small doses.

For those of us that don't mind (or like) dill, those were quite nice
    pickles, though... :)

Speaking of whom, Mark had made the trek from his homestead over
an hour and half west, encouraged by other echo people including
Dirty Dave who had fond memories of some of these occasions,
bringing good cheer, rock samples (?!), and nine I think giant
    leeks. I forget what else.

Actually, he brought the leeks, and the rest of his caboodle, when he
returned on Sunday... The rocks were on Saturday... he had them in his
    truck, I think...

Steve smoked chicken thighs rubbed with Trade Winds Vermont maple
rub. These came out well done but still juicy; I don't think the
seasoning was necessary - I am more of a purist than most, I guess.
Ruth prefers white meat, but the recipe was altered to suit the
tastes of her guests (Nancy and me, mostly).

And I did appreciate using the thighs, too.... the seasoning was an
interesting touch... maybe not necessary, but tasted fine all the
    same...

    yup...

The rocks were on Saturday... he had them in his truck, I think...

they were... along with all my soil engineering tech tools... at least i'm not toting aroung the propane tank and grill on a day-to-day basis any more... at one time i always had that in the truck so if i needed to run moisture tests on
some soil while i was in the field, i could do so and not have to wait until i
    got back to the shop/lab...

Makes sense.... :) Did you have to dedicate the grill to the moisture tests, or could you also use it for cooking....?

i've got several pans that i carry... two cast iron skillets are mainly used to
hold the pie tins for the moistuer tests... but they serve well to heat foil wrapped stuffs like homemade tacos... there's also another pan or two for similar food usages... the main purpose of the cast iron skillets is to spread the heat evenly, though... we've done steaks a few times, too ;)

Ah, that's good that they can be used for both... :) Cast iron skillets
    are mighty handy things... :)

There can appear to be, if one doesn't look for strings attached... :)
