    feel. > There's a Hardee's in that part of town but no other fast food places;
An interesting choice. Does it look like a fast-food place, or
Yes, very much like a fast food place.

I was kind of surprised by this so looked it up. It
had been my impression that the site was in the old
town, but pictures indicate that it's a lot more town
than old, and there are tons of commercial buildings
there, so what's one fast food joint. Now my only
surprise is that there's just the one.

did the company have to design a culturally-appropriate outlet
such as McDonald's has had to in various historic districts?
They also had to disguise themselves on Hilton Head Island. No, Hardee's
did not have to disguise themselves. They fit nicely in with the rest of
    the area they're in.

So I see, and my impression is corrected.

they're spread thruout the newer parts of town. Nice, actually, that
we > aren't overrun with the fast food places in part of WF.
    Oh, I certainly agree.
Definatly not like some of the places we've lived in. (G) Our girls said
that one of their high school teachers in Sierra Vista always referred
to the main street in town (Fry Blvd) as "French Fry Blvd" for all the
fast food places along it. Said that you could raise your cholesterol by driving down the street with your window open.

Just as likely that as by eating the stuff.

Downside > to C-F-A is that they took their carrot raisin salad off
the menu a few > years ago and subbed in a "superfoods" salad with a
    lot of kale,
That's too bad. Trying to appeal to a crowd that it will
    never crack.
Maybe they'll go back to the carrot-raisin salad once they realise it
    was a better seller.

Time and profit-loss statements will tell.

including a lot of stem sections. It's ok but I'd rather have the
    carrot
    And what a nasty-sounding choice.
That's your opinion and you're sticking to it; ours is contrary. (G)

Kale with lots of stems? I'm surprised.

want the bun. I did read a while back that they are test marketing
spicy > strips but we've not been to a C-F-A in a while to verify it. I'd put my "dough" behind Popeye's in any case.
Agreed, they are better but they're also further away. We have C-F-A
within 2 or 3 miles, nearest Popeye's is down in Raleigh, probably about 15-18 miles away. It doesn't make sense to go there if the rest of our
    "run around" is in WF.

If there were a Church's closer by, that might get some
of my business, but with no Popeye's within striking
distance, I'd just as soon no chicken as KFC or CFA.

Don't know, but once you cross Captial Blvd from South Main you're actually in North Raleigh.
Which from your context I gather is part of Raleigh proper?
Technically, yes but it feels more like WF. It's an area known as
    Wakefield.

I'd have hoped it were called Wakeleigh!

I think we were able to use our HT cards last year in KY, don't
remember > for sure or not. Do know we spent enough to get a gas
credit (which we > used) so I think they did honor the HT cards.
People have had mixed success using Giant cards at S&S; seems
likely that one can get the discount but perhaps not the points.
We've not encountered a S&S so not had the chance to try using our Giant
    card there.

If you weigh the evidence offered by Chowhound, Thrillist, and
the local media, you should be able to get an idea where to look.
Yelp and especially Trip Advisor, not so much.
We usually just check places out on our own--have gone to some places reccommended by the N&O restaurant critic and been disappointed in them.

What's his or her batting average been?

time we've been here. The Raleigh sprawl will eventually overtake
more > and more of the area.
Will it take over quick enough to save New Tokyo?
Hard to tell, it's possible. Plans are to widen Capital, make it more of
a limited access highway from Raleigh to north of WF. Not sure how far
north they're planning but it might go that far.

In that case, the question is likely no unless there's a
clientele that isn't obvious to the naked eye.

    Title: Fake Fried Chicken
    Categories: Poultry
    Yield: 4 servings

    1 Chicken breasts; cut/skinned 1 c Crumbs; corn flakes, *
2/3 c Yogurt; plain Spices; of your choice
    **

Calories per serving: 300 Approx. Cook Time: 1:00 *Can use Italian
bread crumbs, or whatever you like. **I put in paprika, oregano, thyme,
some hot pepper flakes. Put enough cereal in the blender to make 1 cup of
crumbs. You can use diet bread or pita but cereal makes a crunchier
coating. Put in your favorite spices and blend or use FP. Take the skin
off the chicken and coat with yougurt. Roll the pieces in crumbs to coat.
Put on a cookie sheet sprayed with Pam. Bake in a 350 degree oven for
    about
    one hour.
This recipe has been around for years in one way or another, but it is
good, low calorie and low everything else. WW; 4Pt; 1/3 milk; 1/2 brd

    Hi MIchael,

feel. > There's a Hardee's in that part of town but no other

than old, and there are tons of commercial buildings

surprise is that there's just the one.

It is the old part of town. The newer part goes from about West Holding
    out to Capital Blvd. Most of the fast food places are out that way;
Hardee's is one of 2 (Domino's Pizza is on White St.) in the older part
of WF. There are several independant restaurants in town--Shorty's Hot
Dogs (founded in 1916), Las Mararita's, Pizza Amore (more than just
pizza) and more but they don't stand out like a fast food franchise.

did the company have to design a culturally-appropriate outlet
such as McDonald's has had to in various historic districts?

Hardee's > did not have to disguise themselves. They fit nicely in

Probably why it was allowed to keep its franchise design.

Definatly not like some of the places we've lived in. (G) Our girls

    Probably so. (G)

As soon as they realise that kale isn't as popular as some people are
    trying to make it.

    the > ML> carrot
    And what a nasty-sounding choice.

Kale with lots of stems? I'm surprised.

For the amount of salad, I seem to get more stems than I think should be
in it. Don't know if they get ingredients and have to chop them or what
(I've gotten the salad in various C-F-As, with the same proportion of stems.)--maybe I need to do some checking into the matter.

want the bun. I did read a while back that they are test

No Church's in the area that I know of. When we lived on the coast, they
built one in Jacksonville. If it's still going, that's the closest one I
know of. There was also one in Savannah, near Hunter AAF.

Don't know, but once you cross Captial Blvd from South Main

For us, maybe about .200; others may have diffferent opinions. The one
German place he reccommended, he gave 4 stars which was top at that
time, now he gives occaisional 5 stars. We thought it was worth 2 stars.

Possibly there is, but we tend to head towards Raleigh for most things. Sometimes we have to go elsewhere but most often, for eating out, it's
either in the WF area or Raleigh.
