Still at the Pond, 14 October, about 10:15am...

I completely agree with that. Example: today Gail and I went to BJs.
As I have often said, we shop for their $7.99/lb porterhouse steaks
which we vacuum seal and freeze for future use. I always make it a
point to check them out. Today they had one package with two steaks,
but the "tenderloin" section was less than an inch wide. No thanks to
that! Our standard is a tenderloin section which is a 3-4 inch round.
Steve usually looks over the meats at Sam's & Costco. We don't always
buy them but have taken advantage of some of their sales from time to
    time.

I am not aware that our Costco has sales -- they and BJs seem pretty consistent on prices.

I don't know about Costco... but BJ's does have some sales... most of
them are actually in the form of the coupons they send out to members in
those booklets and flyers, and in the In-Store coupon booklets, along
with their "Clipless Coupons"... but I've also noticed some sales
(reduced prices for a limited period of time) on meats and such which
are also advertised in those booklets mailed to members... I do watch
for our regular purchases there to have coupons or sales available...

OTOH, the supermarkets certainly do have sales
-- some of which are pretty good. Gail searches the flyers for the
stores and looks for items that we buy. When those items go on sale,
we might stock up. An example is the Ocean Spray cranberry juice
blends. Normal price at Giant and Safeway is about $3.99, but sale is sometimes $2.50. Then we buy six of each of the two flavors that I like (and can have -- can't have grapefruit, but I like it).

The nice thing about Wegman's sales is that they last for a longer time,
so one can pick up one or two a week and stock up that way.... I've done
that a lot for the Ocean Spray cran blends... getting ones that don't
    have apple, of course....

OK -- I do not tend to think of coupons as sales, but I understand now
    what you meant.

I consider them to be a form of sales, anyway... I think Ruth may have
been mostly thinking of the actual sales which tend to be also mentioned
in the coupon booklets when they get sent out... I don't think I've seen
them conspicuously advertised in-store... the most conspicuous are the
clipless coupons which do get some obvious signage.... :)
