So I'm now parked on Bonnie's third floor. She's grateful for the
leftover chocolates as well as the Sriracha items (rooster nuts from
Gail, sesame seeds from Bryan) and kept me up all hours telling
stories about the picnic (she's interested in the blow by blow but
not in attending an event).
It was a quite smooth trip back, Nancy making good time on the first
leg, despite the rental vehicle having some annoying quirks, American
Airlines doing relatively well afterward, with a couple days' relaxation
in Maryland in between.
Thanks for the Hafflys' (and later the Shipps') fine hospitality, to
Mark for adding new blood and beans, and Dale for keeping us posted
on Shirley Ford's progress.
The word is that Nancy's sister Lydia would be amenable to the 2020
echo picnic being held at her place again. Alternate suggestions are
welcome, but it was a good venue and a successful occasion, plus it's
close to the Fords', so that despite their advanced age they might have
a fighting chance of being able to attend if it's there.

general echo membership was invited and that successfully took place:

Title: Spleen Saute
Categories: Pork
Yield: 1 Servings
1 lb Pork spleen
2 Tb Butter
2 cl Garlic, sliced
-herbs and spices to taste
2 oz Bundaberg dark rum
Salt & pepper
Melt 1 Tb butter in a nonstick frying pan. Saute spleens until browned
on both sides. Poke meat at intervals with knife to prevent curling
or popping (this is known as venting your spleen). Lower heat and
cook until spleens are done medium-well. Add butter as necessary.
Remove to a warm platter. Juice should run clear or brownish, no red
in sight - remember this is pork.
Melt another Tb of butter in the pan and saute garlic and herbs for a
minute. Pour in juices that have collected on the platter. Deglaze
pan with rum, flambeing for the entertainment and edification of any
pyros or small children in the neighborhood. Salt and pepper to taste
and pour over meat on platter. Serve at once.
M's note. A touch of balsamic vinegar or lemon juice would go well in
the sauce, as would a minced onion; but we did what we could with
what was handy within 3 feet of the stove.

Hi Michael,
I am sorry I had to miss the picnic this year but I am hoping that I will finally be able to make the 2020 picnic. Better late than never, right?
The word is that Nancy's sister Lydia would be amenable to the 2020
echo picnic being held at her place again. Alternate suggestions are welcome, but it was a good venue and a successful occasion, plus it's close to the Fords', so that despite their advanced age they might have
a fighting chance of being able to attend if it's there.
My plans, as of now, are to go. After being forced to drive to Williamsport from here in one day, I've been conditioned to drive alone for long drives though I do believe in this case, I'd probably drive from Limestone to Harrisburg, PA to stop for the night. Then it's about a five hour drive from there to Nancy's place--ironically driving through Williamsport--to finish my journey.
I have also talked to two fellow Fidonetters I know in the Toronto area about meeting them in Niagra Falls at the same time. I've know both Nick Andre and Shawn Highfield for the better part of two decades or more but just haven't been able to meet up. I figure Rochester would be a good springing-off point to visit my friends and visit Canada for the first time in my life.
I'm hoping to hear soon from the VA about the job. If I officially am hired, I'll (hopefully) have no issues with making plans this far ahead.
Later,
Sean
