Turns out, according to Google Maps, I'd be traveling up to Rochester
via Pittsburgh. So I'd drive to Pittsburgh the first day (or
thereabouts depending on how I am feeling) which is about an eight hour drive then the rest of the way--about 4.5 hours through Erie and Buffalo--up to your neck of the woods. 702 miles according to GM.

That sounds like one of the routes my brother uses, coming up from Bristol... that way avoids the mess that I81 can be... :)

It's the identical route I'd take. I just have to cut up to I-81 via
TN Route 75. I live two miles from the southern terminus of 75. I
drive that northeasterly up to the Tri-Cities Airport, taking Route
357 about two miles up to I-81. From there, it's I-81 up to I-77 to Pittsburgh, IIRC. Don't remember the rest right now.
In any case, I'm hoping to make it next year, car accidents be damned.
:D
