The annual trip to Kava's for the carb overload breakfast.
They tried to seat us right by the front door, but Swisher
demurred; it was a few minutes before we got a booth in
the wayback, wich seemed to be at nobody's station, so
service was slower even than usual.

Swisher got a waffle and bacon. For two more bucks than his
spartan breakfast cost I had 6 oz of ham, a slice of Spam,
two link sausages, two eggs, probably 12 oz of hash browns,
plus pancakes and bacon. I asked for the hash browns extra
well done; they came crisp fried outside and crisp raw inside.
The waitress looked them over and asked if I wanted to send
them back. I said, I'll just eat the crispy parts off the
outside, which is what I did. Eggs over easy. Everything
else was as expected and about as bad as possible for me,
salt and starch all in vast quantity. Three pancakes, which
were probably from a mix but pretty good. Fake maple syrup.

I had a slice of chocolate meringue pie for afters. The
crust was terrible, the filling made with dark cocoa syrup,
and the meringue quite stiff. It was on the whole okay, once
I figured out to discard the crust.

Went to Fred Meyer to get things for what Big Chris requested
as a woktastic eperience. There was nothing that tickled my
fancy, so I picked up 4 potatoes and 2 cucumbers for stir-fry.
Back to the house to do the echo and head out to Bob's, but we
couldn't leave until the cleaning lady was finished.

The famous Caesar has passed on to that kennel in the sky,
and Bob, tired of women and grandchildren, has acquired two
kid-eating-size rottweilers called Ruby Rotten and Shelby
S---head. When I got through the door I was attacked
mercilessly and nearly drowned from dog licks.

The main course was five-spice pork ribs, seasoned from a recipe
off the Internet. Bob made me sniff and asked if it was okay. I
said there should be more star anise, but all the star anise in
the house was whole, not worth the effort. The brand of five-
spice was Sun Luck, which is pretty wimpy, but I said it would
be okay. Before you grill the ribs, you brush with a 50/50 mix
of hoisin and honey. The effect was tasty, but the ribs were
done (by Big Chris) over a bit of a high fire, so they were
a little dry and crispy in spots. Nonetheless I had four.

Big Chris brought some salmon fillets, which he cooked very
nicely but had imperfectly boned. Nonetheless, I had seconds.

Akronin brought Costco stuff - a tray of mac and cheese (quite
good, rather like what I make) and a tray of Alaska cherry blue
salad, which was too blue for me to bother looking at.

Various others brought various wines, mostly pink, given it was
another record heat day, but Jazon and his wife brought some
bottles of Mexican sweet Cabernet, which I didn't care for.

I was lazy and made the usual Asian cucumber salad (vinegar, soy,
sugar, sesame oil) and the promised woktastic things - Chinese
potato stir-fry in hot and mild versions and broccoli that was
supposed to come from Bob's garden, but it turned out that the
dogs, who like their greens, had recently pruned it down to
    dirt level.

Ice cream amd cookies for afters.

Swisher decided it was time to get out of there as it got
dark, good as I was beginning to be eaten by mosquitoes.

Someone suggested that we hit the Alaska Greek Festival at
noon next day, so that was agreed.

We were back before 11 and in the land of nod shortly after.
