side dishes were $1 cheaper and the main course dishes $2 less.
The immigrants need a leg up, I understand that.
These guys are Hoa people who arrived here shortly after the fall
of Saigon and have climbed up well into the entrepreneurial middle
class. The majority of them are well to do homeowners by now.

The attitude continues and will do so for a long
time, at least until the 2nd or 3rd generation
goes off to McGill or Simon Fraser and becomes a
    bunch of professionals.

    Land-grant schools
There were some very forward-looking folks way back when.
    Indeed.

It wouldn't take a genius to see the need, but the
ones who actually built the institutions were in some
way. The builders of the A&M schools were powerful
    for the good.

In theory. Separate but equal didn't work well
But an attempt was made by right thinking people.

Put a good idea into less good hands, and that's
    likely to happen.

So far North Korean missiles have a range of a Sammy Sosa home
    run
NTF, but Mr. Kim's aspirations are pretty big, and
we might do well to be wary of the jerk.
    Absolutely.

We certainly don't need to alternately be best
friends and worst adversaries of the guy.

I think he is exempt from the rule on politics as there is zero
likelihood that anybody here would admire or support him. Hating on
    him will not be divisive.

Probably, but it takes all kinds, as the
milkmaid said as she kissed the cow.

    More things with capers:
Title: Penne with Spiced Tuna Sauce
12 oz Penne; cooked until al dente
    1/4 c Chopped onion
    1/3 c Olive oil
1 sm Whole dried hot red pepper
    4 Anchovies; finely chopped
    2 tb Capers
12 oz Tuna fish, packed in oil,
    Drained and crumbled
    Salt to taste

    Salt to taste, eh.

    &
I don't know why it has a tiny insignificant amount of soy flour in
    it.
Boost the protein numbers? Better than melamine.
There's less soy flour in that bread than salt so there would be
hardly any measurable improvement in protein or a noticeable change in
taste. There's just enough soy there to possibly irritate somebody
    with an allergy.

    So I give up.

Yorkshire pudding and Cornish pasty campaigner
    Well, I won't say I'm exactly a denier, rather
    a skeptic.
    Title: Spiced Vegetable Pasties
    210 g Chick peas
    1/2 tb Ground coriander
    1/2 ts Ground cumin
This recipe is also nice with filo pastry, or the samosa packets you
    can buy.
An interesting modern take on it. It would certainly go nicely in a
samosa packet as it basically is a samosa. I wonder if this is a
deliberate Anglo-Indian fusion thing not unlike the haggis pakora I
    alluded to the other day.

The other day I had "crispy calf's head" and imagined I'd get
some vinaigretted loaf, sliced, breaded, and fried. No, it was
pieces of calfskin and gristle sort of stewed, tossed in a
mustard cream, and then folded up into a crispy fillo sheet.

    Scottish things with capers:
Title: Boiled Gigot of Lamb or Mutton
NOTES: Gigot is the French word for a leg of mutton and was
adopted by the Scots during the days of the 'Auld Alliance'

And it's pronounced jiggut, as language was not something
that came over in the Auld Alliance. The Scots are proud
of their cuisine, as they learned a lot from the French,
who learned a lot from the Italians, who learned a lot
    from the Chinese.

This dish is traditionally cooked by boiling lamb or mutton with
    carrots AND turnips.
... A wee dram of Scotch is really 10 drams

Wee being perhaps a jocular usage.

    &

I wonder if flavor profile is taken into account by the US
    authorities.
Perhaps the orange mafia or the honey cartel is overly influential?

Given our federal agriculture department and food and
drug administrations and how they are dollar-driven,
    this is an unremote possibility.

    Orange Blossom Cocktail
I think I like your recipe better than mine!
There are no (thankfully) orangy cocktail recipes with capers in

    Filthy Martini
    categories: booze
    servings: 1

3 oz vodka, use a top quality
    1 oz brine, from capers
    1/2 oz
    h - Garnish
    1 caper

Combine vodka, brine, and vermouth in a cocktail shaker
filled with ice. Let it sit for 30 sec or just until
well chilled. Pour into a chilled martini glass and
    garnish with a caper.

M's note: this wouldn't be bad with a drop of orange
    flower water.

    Mamas Kitchen Hope, food.com

them but here's a salad dressing that does:
Title: Asparagus Vinaigrette W/Sieved Egg & Pickled Pink Onions

    They could easily be omitted.

... Champagne and orange juice is a great drink.

    'tis.
