I do like gravy on toast though. Especially if there's a little
leftover chopped meat, fried onions or mushrooms in the gravy.
But the texture and taste of toast is different than pancakes.

I like gravy on toast or on bread. A bit of shredded beef in the gravy
makes it even better. A lot of shredded beef in the gravy makes it a
    po-boy sandwich.

My dad often had white navy beans on bread. They were cooked a while
and were almost like beans in bean gravy.

You probably encountered this in England: baked beans (in either
tomato sauce or molasses) on toast is a very British breakfast item.
And it's one I like as part of a hearty Sunday brunch especially if
it's garnished with bacon and a bit of bacon grease as well.

Yes -- and another unmentioned English breakfast item (not sure if it
was so in the rest of the UK) was fried bread. Basically take a bread
slice and fry it in at least a quarter inch of bacon fat. Of course,
there bacon was not at all like our "streaky" bacon. Usually a round
one inch size of lean pork surrounded by pork fat -- often with a tail,
well known to include a bit of gristle or two.

My Wife measures out some Flour, Canola Oil and Milk in a Sauce Pan, puts
it on a Burner on the Range and lets Me stir it while She is fixing some other food for our meal.

    Gravy

    1 Tbl Flour
    1 Tbl Canola Oil
    1 Cup Milk

My grandmothers both taught me that the best gravy is made using the drippings from whatever meat you've just cooked.
One of the best I've ever had was my maternal grandmothers hamburger gravy. Super simple to make too.

    Brown 1# of ground beef
    Do NOT drain.
Add a couple of TBL of flour, stir till thickened
Add milk while continuing to stir until desired thickness is reached.

    Serve over hot biscuits.

    Howdy!,

My Wife measures out some Flour, Canola Oil and Milk in a Sauce Pan, puts
it on a Burner on the Range and lets Me stir it while She is fixing some
    other food for our meal.

    Gravy

    1 Tbl Flour
    1 Tbl Canola Oil
    1 Cup Milk

That is the measuring standard (Ratio) She uses to get the correct
proportions in the Pot to make Gravy for Us.

My stiring the Pot keeps Me out from under foot while She works.

I used the word Range instead of Stove, and while editing this text I
thought about Homer and Jethro singing Home On The Range on one of their arrangements of That Song.

    It begins Somewhat like this:

"Oh give me a home where the Buffalo Roam and I'll show You a house that's
    not clean."

Their Album with that Song on it also has:

"Roll On Deoderant, Roll On" (Gives You 24 Hour Protection All Day Long)

"I Lost Freida On The Freeway"

And Some Other VERY GOOD Songs! IMNSHO.

I think the Title of the Album I have is: "The Ballad Butchers".
