Although getting her bag into the overhead was
    quite a chore.
    Size and weight, I imagine...?

Weight. It was a normal-dimensioned carryon, only
    tightly packed.

Could have been better - revue of violas.
    There you go... ;)
Or bouquet of violas, as it should more properly be.
That works, too... but not as likely misread that way.... ;)

    A bucket of violas?

    Ah, but if there's no wi-fi, there's wi-fi.
Not for a dinosaur of a computer that's never had and isn't capable of using wi-fi....
There is or may be that. The sci-fi story in question
posited an adversary being able to figure out what is
on a computer solely by minute variations in line
resistance or voltage (I think that's what it was).
Ah... well that does certainly sound science-fictional... ;)

It also sounds plausible, given the imbalance between a
personal computer and some behemoth someplace (especially
then, when all the brains that had to be picked were a
few Meg of RAM and a couple hundred Meg of storage).

Dunno where she'd fall either... but pretty much her experience has been with research libraries (medical)... and before that, with circulation..
Somewhere in between, maybe, because of competing
interests. At least building and maintaining a
collection of historical value wasn't a concern.
    Exactly....

There are history of science collections, such as
Countway, but they're a special case.

I like the Portuguese oils but have had good ones
from all over the place, from North Africa to California.
Even Australia makes some good ones.
And he probably hasn't had quite the range of experience that you've
had, even though he considers himself well-traveled... :)
I've also had bad olive oil as well as obvious
    counterfeit/adulterated.
    But of course.... :)

It's sort of sad and weird that such things exist, though.

    Hot olive oil rum
    categories: punches, odd, booze, winter
    servings: 12

3/4 c lightly packed dark brown sugar
    1/4 c olive oil
1 ts orange zest; more for garnish
    1 ts vanilla extract
    1/4 ts ground allspice
    6 c boiling water
    3 c spiced rum
    whipped cream for garnish

Combine the first 5 ingredients in a bowk.

Fill mugs with hot tap water to warm them.
Empty the warm mugs and fill each with
    1/2 c boiling water and 1/4 c rum. Stir a g
enerous tablespoon of the spiced oil into
each mug. Garnish with a small dollop of
    whipped cream.

That would have to be the pansy-like flowers rather than the instrument,
as, I suppose, actually that bouquet would needs be...

Much less now, with so maany more, and so much larger all round
machines... although, the super computers are likewise larger and
faster... Nah... I'm not going to talk myself into a scare... (G)
