A recent issue of The Highlander had a couple of interesting news
shorts... and I thought of you (and the Echo)... haven't had time to
type them till now, though... ;)

    First...
    VEGAN SAUSAGE ROLLS A HIT
Greggs, the largest bakery chain in Britain, has a strong Scottish
following because of such traditional offerings as sausage rolls and
pasties. In fact, every week the chain sells 1.5 million sausage rolls
alone. Still, with 3.5 million vegans in Britain, Greggs felt they
could do better, so earlier this year, a vegan sausage roll was
introduced in its 1,800 stores nationwide. Selling at L1, it features
96 layers of dairy-free puff pastry wrapped around a proprietary filling
of Quorn, a meat substitute popular in Europe. Early reports are
positive, with many shops selling out by 9 a.m. and day-old vegan rolls
showing up on eBay at inflated prices. "We're not giving out numbers,
but it's literally flying off the shelves," said Roger Whiteside, chief executive at Greggs.

    And then later...
    HAGGIS CUPCAKES TAKE GOLD
An Aberdeenshire baker's haggis cupcakes have taken top prize at the
Scottish Craft Butchers Haggis Products Awards last January. Alistair
Bruce of Bruce Of the Broch bakery and butcher shop in Fraserburgh
explained his award-winning creation: "I thought we could produce a
cupcake from layers of perfectly proportioned haggis, neeps and tatties
to offer customers something simple and different -- all they have to do
is heat it in the oven." Other notable entries included Kingussie
butcher Donald Gilmour's puff pastry containing haggis, black pudding,
chopped chicken and mushroom sauce, and Dingwall butcher Fraser
    Brothers' haggis lasagna.

    Enjoy! (G)

While looking that up I came across another version of a haggis
cupcake. Make shortcrust pie pastry and line a muffin tin. Bake
blind. Spoon in cooked haggis. Top with mashed potatoes and brown
the potato under the boiler and serve. No turnips in that version
although you could add a layer of mashed turnips between the haggis
and the potato if you were so inclined. It's actually more of a tart
    than a cake I suppose.

... Haggis pakora is a highly improbable but real Indo-Caledonian alliance

    Haggis pakora

And that could be interesting to try as well... :)

Now try to imagine haggis spring rolls and quesadillas. Apparently
    they too are real things.

... As popular as the Ronnie MacDonald (no relation) haggis burger.
